Out hard reading those paint jobs failures. What an embarrassing final product they allowed out the door.
Yeah, there are a bunch of paint failures....many arriving at the dealership with quality control issues that make you shake your head. Like, the whole quality control dept. at GM must be shut down and void of employees. It's mind blowing.

Hello all, I’m faced with a delimma and while it’s ultimately my choice, some feedback from my mud family is appreciated. So, currently I own my 2nd Silverado ZR2 due to the first having paint peeling from all 4 doors and the hood. Since I do like the truck overall, I thought I would roll the dice on another ZR2 after the first dealer took the truck back and unwound the deal. Four weeks into this truck and the bottom of all four doors and hood are peeling as well. I’ve touched up the bottom of the doors and hood until Chevy comes up with a fix. The bodyshop wants to remove all doors, panels, hood, and associating hardware to correctly fix and reassemble…truck has 612 miles as she sits.

Therein lies my dilemma which is I found a ‘19 LC with low miles (southern rig one owner and no accidents). The dealer is offering it to me for market value and offering me more than what I paid for my truck. Now, will the touch up paint hold and I never have any more issues? Maybe. It’s still a new truck with nice features.

I’ve owned both a 100 and 200 series and know first hand the build quality and reliability associated with both. This truck has me concerned and while the mechanical side of it performs well thus far, its still a Chevy. My ‘21 Ford Raptor was even worse build quality. Side note, I don’t need a truck as I’m not a contractor but a home owner with an occasional trip to lowes. Therefore, do I dump the new truck on the 200 or keep the truck in the hope Chevy fixes the paint issues and the 6.2 doesn’t have lifter issues? Admittedly, I miss my ‘11 LC and Japan build quality but is going backwards 3 years and paying essentially sticker price for the LC the right move? This is my internal fight 😩😁
Lots of opinions I completely agree with. Biased? Yeah.
Got my '19 200 new, paid for it a month before it arrived at the dealership. Currently my wife's DD. that was my first LC. I love that beast so much I got an 80 series and rebuilt everything (no kidding). It's a '97 and the paint sounds like it's better than your truck at only 381k miles (sorry) no peeling of clearcoat, etc. I would, and could take either of them pretty much anywhere, with my only concern being that they both really love gas stations, especially the 80 series.
We're biased sure, for a few good reasons I guess.
To be fair I have a '13 OR Taco with 93k miles as a backup - dang that bed is small!

The peeling paint will likely be the least of your issues, especially after 5-10yrs.

Paying the extra 10g for the LC will be the cheaper option in the long run.

I’d run from anything built by GM, end of story.

The new Hummer Ev is pretty sweet though. Best looking EV in my opinion. Saw one up close and got to look around it and for the money, it’s real impressive.

Good looking and properly functioning are not one in the same. GM makes garbage products designed and engineered to the bottom dollar.

No question about it but I’ll still give them props for making something that doesn’t look like an egg(Tesla) or have an emoji face(Rivian) and have actual functioning buttons, steering wheel stalks whereas the other evs make you control almost everything through its screen including wipers. Having spoken with the owner of one, he averages 360-380mi range with mixed city/hwy and highest range was 404mi. with heavy city “around town” use. He loves it and was planning to flip it but ended up selling his plaid Tesla and Raptor instead. I have one on order and will flip it if I hate it but it does come with an 8yr. warranty. GM is certainly not ever in my list of vehicles to ever buy but this Hummer looks and feels very solid as it should for being 9k pounds. Hopefully when I get the next edition with the new upgraded UI system and many of the bugs worked out.

The biggest bug with the 1st edition is the 12v battery. It would die because the hummers were sitting around in dealer showrooms left on for up to 2wks, allowing the dealer to show it off and do special events. The customer would finally get it and several of them acted dead but just needed a quick charge to get it going and needed to be replaced. I’m on Hummer ev forum and that seems to be the biggest complaints besides the power retractable cover not working off/on which the Rivian is dealing with.

GM definitely went cheaper on some of the switches and other interior materials to maintain higher profit margins, while still keeping the truck within reason. G-wagons are going for almost $200k right now, so the Hummer is a bargain. Lol!

I am no fan of the bailout company that makes some of the cheapest and worst looking interiors.

I will say, GM isn’t messing around on the new Hummer. They want this thing to be very successful. You can instantly email from your truck about issues so they can rectify quickly and to fix before building new ones.

This is what is sent to the dealers service Manager and GM.

The top U.S. auto-safety regulator is opening an investigation into reported catastrophic engine failures with some Ford Bronco vehicles, yet another setback in the auto maker’s efforts to improve its quality record.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a filing made public this week it was launching the probe, after receiving reports of 2021 Ford Bronco SUVs experiencing a loss of power at highway speeds. The examination covers nearly 25,500 vehicles, NHTSA said.

A Ford spokesman said the auto maker is aware of a select number of engines early in the launch of the Bronco that exhibited the alleged defect and it is investigating the issue. If any customers are experiencing issues, they’ll be covered under the vehicle’s powertrain warranty, the spokesman said.

No injuries or crashes have been linked to the alleged problem to date, according to NHTSA’s filing.

“We continue to be hampered by recalls and customer satisfaction actions,” Ford Chief Executive Jim Farley said in an April earnings call. “This has to change.”

Reports of engine problems in the Bronco date to this spring, when multiple owners filed petitions with NHTSA asking the agency to open a formal investigation into the alleged problem. The petitioners alleged that 2021 Broncos were experiencing a loss of motor power at highway speeds.

“Some have barely avoided major injury when their vehicles have had complete power loss at freeway speeds in traffic,” one owner wrote in a petition.

Ford identified the root cause of the alleged defect as interference between the valve and piston within the 2.7-liter EcoBoost engines, which can result in the engine locking up, NHTSA said. The regulator has identified 26 reports that related to the alleged defect in the Bronco.

NHTSA said it opened the formal investigation to assess the scope, frequency, and potential safety-related consequences of the alleged defect.

I’ve heard people say the Bronco is very noisy on the highway

You’d think because of the supply shortage and lower vehicle production “I am assuming” they could slow down and take more time building the vehicles or at least take that time to over inspect them. They’ve been building cars for 100yrs, by now they should have it figured out and finally make some reliable cars.

Slowing down and losing profits?! They are not paying those assembly workers to take their time with their builds! They are not building LCs ya know! :D

Disclaimer Toyotally biased Opinion.
Wife owned a Grand Prix went I met her. That things was junk. It was 3 years old and it squeaked, it rattled, the power windows worked half the time. Under hard acceleration it felt like trans was going to break free from car when it shifted gears. Wife dad had GMC 2500 I think it was about 4 years old when I first met him and every piece of interior was coming apart. Friend with Chevy 1500 on lease had it spend 1 month at dealer for dead engine control module. Same friend got Camaro the v8 broke a valve spring just before end of 3 year lease. Sorry but no one I know that has owned a GM product has had even a remote chance at long term reliable well made vehicle.

I say get the LC and never look back. Good Luck either way.

To be fair, as a counterpoint there are a select few people with solid, multiple hundred thousand mile GMs, or fords, or even Chryslers. But those are the exception.

Whereas almost any toyota with significant quality issues is the exception, and a well maintained one going to 300k miles doesn’t surprise a single person that knows anything about cars. And the J series is built to an even higher standard.

Again, I know which I’d prefer.

Not really a good analogy because some of the newer Chevys & Fords cost as much as LC!

Maybe a better analogy (for those who follow mobile phones) is iPhone vs. Sony Xperia 1. Xperia has fancy features (zooming camera, big sensor, eye tracking, 4K display) but cannot do the very basic thing such as avoiding overheating (due to poorly designed chassis, zero heat mitigation materials), poor battery life due to 4k display, can’t take a basic photo without compromise (lack software and proper HDR), and poor support post-purchase (lack software update).

Nerd alert @Madtiger!

Just kidding! 😂

I haven’t read all the posts above word for word so maybe it was mentioned.

I had a Blazer that had peeling paint above the windshield. The truck was probably a year old. The dealer’s body shop removed all of the hardware, roof rack, etc and ground all of the paint off the truck. It looked like a Delorean for a day. Then they primed and painted two stage paint.

Insist on that process rather than just painting the bad areas if you keep the truck.

Buy the LC. GM makes surprisingly terrible trucks. The 5.3 is designed to fail at 100k miles. The Tranny is trash, the ac compressor goes at 80k Miles, and the led taillights fail and cost 2k each.

I have both a 2020 AT4 (so not ZR2 but close) and a 2017 200 in my garage. We used to have a Volvo XC70 wagon and the Cruiser but my wife wanted a bigger car so we traded in the Volvo for the truck and I gave her the Cruiser to drive.

I absolutely love the AT4. I *also* absolutely love the 200. They are two completely different vehicles and are great in their own right. I have paint issues on one part of the bumper of the AT4, but otherwise have been *very* happy with my truck in the almost 50k miles of ownership. No issues with lifters on the 6.2L either. The utility was critical during multiple moves and various projects. It also fits car seats a lot better than the 200. It tows better in different ways than the 200: it's more stable on the highway with greater length and more power, but the 200 maneuvers in tighter spaces better. They both do equally well with a 6400lb boat/trailer combo at the ramp.

Really the only issue we have with the 200 is space. I know that may sound ridiculous but these car seats these days are gigantic. We have a 1 y/o now and his car seat keeps my wife from reclining her seat beyond comfortable position for travel. I would be unable to sit comfortably with another seat behind me. Furthermore with a 65lb dog and a cooler we would have essentially zero space for the amount of crap we bring, which looks like Hannibal crossing the Alps. If/when dash-2 arrives, we will likely go to a Suburban with captain's chairs.

The question ultimately will be: sell the 200 and stay with 2 cars, keep the 200 at 3 cars, sell the 200 and replace with a FJ60/62.

I went without a truck for about 4 years and I can't imagine not having one in the family.
