I'm looking to upgrade my gen 2/3 navigation disk and one e-bay guy is claiming version 7.1 just came out October 1st. Anyone know if this is valid?
Other posts here say the same but I don't want to be the first sucker. ESPECIALLY AT 300 BUCKS.
Other posts here also say these disks could be copied (although illegal).
Anyone have any "friends" ;) that are successfully using a copied version?

Does any one know if the v7.1 NAV disc from a Toyota Tundra will work in a 2003 LX470? What are the hazards of trying it?

the tundra probably doesnt have the same nav generation as your LX, which will teh mezz up evertinz.

help with Gen vs. version etc

Is there a guide to this on mud? I searched (really, I did) but didn't find it...

I have an '03 running v. 2 - is mine Gen 2? Gen 3? and how far can I update (or is there a limit) meaning can I go all the way to 7.1 or is it only able to go to something like 5.1...

So I take it that the 2007 Toyota v 7.1 disc will not work in the 2003 gen 2/3 system.... Is there any way to hack the disc so that it will work?

What Generation is 2004 LC w/back=up camera? Thanks...Tom R

Call me an idiot but...

We have a 2006 LX470. As I read the Sewell site, that means we have a Gen 4/DVD based system. What would this "upgrade" do for me? Does it improve the resolution of my screen or simply add streets to the map?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Christian

Looks like it's legit:

edit: looks like Sewell is offering it for $260, but note that this is a G4 release.

G2/3 still looks to be on 6.1:

aednton thanks for that post i read the whole thing and lots of great info came up with some questions for ya with regards to swapping units for example i know gx's are produced in higher numbers so there would be more units available in salvage yards per se so can those units be retro fitted to the 100 series? simple plug a play? Our biggest problem is that the head unit control ac stuff etc so you cant do without one hence ebay etc thanks a bunch hey by the way do you work for costal tech or one of those companies? you have lots of knowledge of the units thanks again

Da Hapa, it will probably only add a few streets and POIs for you.

r3run33, my gut feeling is that a GX or RX unit could be retro'ed. I actually plan on trying an 07 RX (Gen 5) when I get the chance. I doubt it will be PnP tho, there are probably going to be some molex fitment issues, but we'll see. Glad someone found that thread interesting/useful.

Nope, I don't work for any of those types of companies, I just like silly challenges :)

cool the reason i said the gx is that it looks very similar and the buttons are very similar so thought that would be the closest retro fit plus last time i seen a post it was like 30k volum sold of the gx vs 3k of the lx/lc combined

hey while u r playing with the units what does the actual costal tech device do to allow the bypass screen or the parking brake by pass for dvd play while in motion? I know you can ground the wire for the parking brake but it also allows you to enter info on the fly; so is it just the ground wire allowing all this?

:)

Thanks for your input. You probably just saved me a couple hundred dollars.

Although I live in S. Ca in a home built in the late 1960's, my house isn't on my nav system nor is it on the nav system (gen 5) of the 2007 and 2008 RX's that I've had as loaner cars.

Kind of lame:confused:

BTW, I've been meaning to ask, but keep forgetting... let me know when you sell the NSX, ok? Seriously.

I updated my Gen2 2001 LX (2000 map date) to the version 7.1 (2007). This was a noticeable update. Updated maps and addresses are nice; however, there was a lot more. The biggest surprise was the huge increase in POIs - there are now over 8 million. The categories have been increased making searches easier. We were able to remove a number of our marked points because they are in the POIs, including phone numbers.

Another surprise is that the screen is sharper in its presentation and the colors are more pronounced.

For those with the old Gen 2 DVD, this is a very useful update.

I want one of those updates, thanks for the info LX Pearl

i have a 2003 (gen 3) that i recently (last year) updated to the 6.1 version of the maps. it did add newer streets and some new poi's. make sure that the map upgrade you get is for the nav version you have in your vehicle. it seems as if the gen 4 stuff is much cheaper than the gen 2/3 stuff.

I've read some conflicting information about identifying the navigation Gen version based on the model year. According to Sewell Lexus 04-07 LX470's are Gen 4 but I read somewhere that the 2007 TLC is Gen 5. Any idea how I can find out for sure what Gen my nav is?

The software version is 6.1.

I thought the 2007 LX got Gen 5 while the LC stayed Gen 4???
