Gearbox fluid level (92 4x4 PU) for dummies

Where and how do I check the level for the 5 speed gearbox - can I use 80-90 gear lube or is it a different oil? Sorry to sound dumb, but before i make matters worse. Feels a little dry on the shift now and then. Is it fill from the cab or from under the rig?

It's on the drivers side and you just fill it up till it runs out. 80-90 is fine.

Is it the fill plug that resembles the fill plug on the Tcase but it is underneath the driver side? I just wanted to make sure.

the fill and drain plugs are the same size.
the trans, transfer, and diff. all the same.

yep, that's it. Also you might try 75/90 weight oil. Doesn't sound like much but it shifts easier with the lighter oil and IIRC, that is the correct spec anyway.

On my old 86 truck the fill plugs were the same size, but on my 4Runner they are not the same size.... It might be a replacement though.

I was not able to locate any plug to fill or check level underneath the truck anywhere. i will post pictures tomorrow. Maybe my 92 pickup does not have a toyota transmission? is that even possible?
