So I must be running low on search mojo...so please if there are threads out there already (as I would guess there are) please redirect me. I'm getting ready to install 4.88's and an ARB in the front of my '99 after destroying the front ring and pinion. I have the FSM to read, but figured I'd research on mud as well and am coming up empty. I looked in the FAQ and searched 'ARB install', 'gear install', and 'gear setup' and didn't find what I was after. I'm probably not the guy to do the write up since this will be my second set of gears to set up in about 20 years :-)

If there isn't a write up, but you have any tips feel free to post those up as well :-)

Very helpful! Thanks!

So generically I think what I was worried about is shimming the carrier bearings. It appears to me that the shimming is done between the bearing and the case rather than the bearing and the carrier as on Dana products I'm familiar with. Does that sound right to others?

With the questions you have, I would highly recommend having Zuk or another reputable shop do your gear set up. Gears are very easy to mess up.

Thanks for the tip...sort of passed that option at this point :-) I have a couple experienced mechanics looking over my shoulder and have setup other gears in the past (just not Toyota) so I think it should be fine. I'll be very careful to get the pattern right. Can't be any worse than what was in there :-) Opened them up tonight and lots of metal in the rear end. Front clearly had lots of metal from shearing teeth.
