Looking for some input. I am in need of a gauge cluster for my 72 FJ40. The PO did a Frankenstein on mine and I want to go back to an original cluster. I looked on ebay and found more than a dozen gauge clusters starting at $120.00. What's y'all opinion on these Chinese made gauges? I'm in Texas and would like one with mph instead of kph too. I have a sbc 350 in mine. Would these work if I went that route? Or is anyone on here wanting to get rid of a cluster laying around? TIA

Don't know how frankenstein'd your cluster is as no pictures included but if you are looking for a complete unit then do a search for Dakota Digital. They have several options for look and function including an auto trans if you have one. You may not like the price but pretty sure it will be a one stop shop instead of finding adapters and sensors from various sources.

I'm acquiring all electrical components at once so I can take my rig to my electrician and have him hook up everything all at once.

I can probably help you with this. I likely have a complete 72 cluster or can fill in the missing pieces of your frankencluster.

First, I wouldn't buy a knockoff or a Dakota digital. The knock off still leaves you with kilometers and it's not really right for a 72 (there are amp gauge and gauge differences that are a pain). And buying a Dakota means you are giving in to the dark side of the force. Don't give into the dark side 😁

You said you have a 350 there maybe a chance that you have a 4 speed which may mean the PO put an updated cluster in. A pic or 2 would help to determine what you have.

72 is kind of a crossover year but likely your OEM cluster will look something like this. The gauges will have similar faces with the temp on the left and the fuel on the right. Also a threaded speedometer fitting.

I agree with you, but I think he already crossed into the dark side with a 350.

if he doesn't want this, I might be interested as this fits exactly what I need

see pic above for current gauge cluster. I do in fact have a 4 speed.

I'm looking at having the whole thing rewired properly.
Given where you are starting from and your plan to completely rewire, a Dakota Digital cluster would be a good option. @wngrog has installed at least a couple and info can be found in his build threads.

The Dakota Digital dash is easy to put in. I'm a moron and didn't have any issues

I am also searching for a 72 gauge cluster for my wife's FJ so let me know if there is a deal to be made.

@neilhernandez92 . There are some good suggestions above. Now that I see the pic of your cluster that is not a frankencluster. It is an alien. As noted above, it may very well be that there is not much left of the original cluster wiring behind the dash In that case a DD is not a bad option.

If you are interested in staying more oem I have this cluster. It is from a later model FJ40 than yours but if you have a 4 speed and are in need of wiring, this is a pretty easy retrofit and gives you better speedometer and gauges (than a 72 cluster). I can help you with the proper wiring once you get to that point. This cluster is fully functional and ready to go into truck when you are ready.

I will send you a PM as well.

I do like this option. What are you asking for it?

Dakota Digital will be the best money spent. Less headaches in the future and the possible upgrades are great.
