I am hoping someone can give a little insight. I have an 83' 60. the gas tank seems to be cloging the works with bits and pieces of rust and trash. What's the best course of action here? New tank? Get old tank cleaned? Opt for the long range tank?
Will a good rad. shop do the job of cleaning?
Also, does anyone have a good used one available?
Thanks Guys and Gals.

There is a recall on FJ60 gas tanks, you can check and see if yours has been done.

Although I don't know where, probably call your local dealer first!

Problem solved!

I had a similar problem when I bought my truck. I made it 50 miles home before completely clogging the new fuel filter I had installed at the PO's house. Nasty stuff!

I went with the POR15 Fuel Tank Repair kit after first sending the tank out to a radiator shop to be completely boiled and painted. I lucked out and by dropping it off on a Friday, they had it in their tank all weeked so it was as good a starting point as I could have hoped for. He offered to seal it for me but I didn't know what products he was using so I bought my own.

The whole process took 3-4 days at a slow pace. The most important part is to make sure you drain as much of the final sealant before setting it aside to harden. I left just a bit in the bottom near the drain plug and it ever so slightly started to bubble. I'm pretty sure that it didn't cause any damage but that stuff is way too solid to tweek after it starts to set up.

Oh! Make sure you clear out all the vent pipes and such before it sets as well. I forgot to blow some air through the pipes so now I think I might have a non-venting fuel tank. We'll know more as the warmer spring temps start to expand the fuel in the tank.

Thanks for the info, I will check with Toyota. That would be awesome,
It may be just the thing to reseal it. If the price is right.
Thanks, Guys
