My rear shock cross brace rusted out. While in the process of replacing it I had to shift the fuel lines. When doing so they suddenly went slack and I could tell something broke. Started the truck to test and sure enough I had gas pouring out from the top of the tank. I dropped the tank and the top two tubes are broken. Rusted out.

You can see the broken nipple at center, there should be two tubes out the top, probably inlet and outlet.. The other one is broken out also. So my question is, can I just replace the round gasket unit that these are part of, or do I need to replace the entire tank? There are 8 or so little hex heads on top so it looks like it comes out separate. It's rusted, so I doubt it will just unscrew, but maybe possible.

Yes, I've already checked and my tank was replaced under recall in 1992.:crybaby:

Toyota part number for that part is 77240-60030. It's $30 or so new, with gasket. Screws are extra.

The same thing happened with my tank the other day. However, I can't get the spare tire bracket off to remove the tank so I'm screwed. :)

bolts are rusted and kinda stripped.

chisel them off

known as the fuel pick up unit.
make sure you have phillip that fits them tight. you'll strip them pretty quick if you're not careful. once you break tehm loose they come right out.

Great, thanks guys. My factory service manual didn't show it as separate. I hope that's all it is now. One thing after another. Rust cancer is starting to get me and when I touch one thing it usually leads to another.

Here's a teaser pic of my newly fabbed rear shock crossbar. And showing my rust.
