Gas Mileage?

I know this question has been posed before, but now at $3/gallom I’m actually interested this time.

Just recently I did the 90k service which comprises of new plugs and timing belt, and put on a new set of 285 BFGs. Since then I think I have began to fund some small independent oil company here in Houston. I’m lucky to get even 12mpg while driving with the lightest foot.

Is this normal with larger tires, and what could I do to get better gas mileage. Would changing the old O2 sensors help, and could improperly gapped plugs cause decreased fuel economy?

seriously... the best thing u can do is a search. then reduce the points on your font. then stop driving your rig if you've done everything has been suggested in the four thousand threads that have already covered this topic.

Did you compensate for the larger tire size? It's about 7% larger in diameter. One way to improve economy is to go back to the OEM size...lower frontal profile (less wind resistance), less rotational mass (less throttle needed to accelerate) only helps fuel economy. Also, reduce unnecessary weight (like lugging around tools around town).

i run the same setup on my 2000. mostly stock, bfg 285s. i used to get 14 or sometimes worse. but my friend and i put an exhaust (cat back) and intake on the truck and i average 15.7 in the city. 5300ft above sea level on 91 octane. sounds better too

exhaust and intake are custom. i can post pics if there is interest.

for the exhaust we used a flowmaster 50 series which pretty much fits perfectly
and borla tip. cut out the resonator, very little new pipe needed. we re-used a lot of the original bends and hangers.

the intake is from japan. we made a custom mount for it and also had to drill new holes where the MAF mounts.

I've got the new 06 engine with variable valve timing.

On my one and only long (100 miles) drive, I got a very cool 20.0 mpg at about 70mph.

Most of my driving is to and from work, which is 7 miles of 50 mph 3 lane surface street, with about a dozen stop lights. This brings me down to about 15.5, and I cringe every time I need to do a quick stop from 55mph because of a red.
