gas mileage for a 60/62??

My 88 gets 12 around town and 19 on the freeway(if I keep it under 65). At 70~75 it gets around 16 mpg.

I've checked and rechecked these figures with a GPS, and there as close as one will get.

Brand new to me '85 FJ60, with a fairly fresh rebuild, desmogged, and H55... 235/85R16

Picked it up in CO Springs, filled up, went to Salida, played in the mountains, filled back up in Leadville. 15.0MPG.
Leadville to I70, through Denver to North Platte, cruising 70-75 once clear of Denver. 20.11 MPG (Yes, really).
North Platte to around Lincoln (filled up with ~1/2 tank left to avoid stopping in Omaha). 72-78 MPH. 17.0 MPG.

Back in Central IA now, that's all I've got for data. I checked my odometer against the mile markers, double checked against my friend's car that we drove out there, and then triple checked against Google Maps when I got home. Actual speed and distance is ~11% over indicated, and figures take that into account.

************************

Edit: Filled up again today... about 1/2 tank of highway from Lincoln to central IA at ~75mph, then 1/2 tank of around town over the last couple of days. Another 17mpg tank. I'm so happy with this thing, and not just because of the gas mileage; I can't believe how awesome it is!

got it new in 88

hi guys , my first post, just joined , been lurking for a couple of years.

I got my 88 back in 88 , still gt the window sticker which said 12 city and 13 highway. at this point she has 31 x 10.50, roof rack , spare tire rack , and sliders plus odds and ends (tools etc) with all the weight and the added accelaration requirements of the slightly larger tires I get the 12/13 toyota promised. never seems to change....excedpt if she overheats and the injector o rings start leaking, then she gets eight.........Arizona heat likes to do its part lol
great board
Mike

I get 8 no matter what. OME lift 33's and 2.5" exhaust and highflow cats. What would be the next big step to get better mileage? A header or maybe just a good tune?

177 fuel-ups via Fuelly | Share and Compare Your MPG on my 86 FJ-60

Radio Goat (Toyota Land Cruiser) | Fuelly

Avg is 12.8, but is getting lower (11.8) since I replaced the 3.73 gearing to 4.11. That should improve once I move to 33x12.50 tires. I am currently using 31x10.50

Mileage improved for new carb, headers, adjust the valves, etc.
Heavy+/Heavy+ OMU lift, Jim dizzy mod, desmogged, no CAT

daily driver, started out at 8-9 mpg

What about mileage for diesels? Anyone got any numbers?

How about mileage for any guys running new engine/transmission? Chevy 350 and H55/NV4500? Any great improvement with the new equipment?

99% are like Diesel owners. They will lie about mileage.

I got 10 around town with a good running 2f and 13 at best on the highway. I got 10-12 no matter what I did with a lower mileage fj62. With a fj60 5.7tbi/4l60e I get a consistent 13.5-14 around town and 16-17 on the highway. 16 at 75+ 17 around 65mph. I can honestly say I have never driven less then 65 on a highway with it so it may be a bit better if I slowed down. The first 2 were with 33" tires and a 4" lift. The v8 60 is SOA on 35"km2s so I imagine with less lift, smaller less aggressive tires it may be 1-2 mpg better. These are all hand calculated. I live in AZ with 75mph speed limits outside of the city as well.

18 with a 1990 chevy 350 v8

Silly question, so have heard. I told the wife that we were getting a ute that got better mileage than the FJ62. Well, the '97 Expedition gets 12 mpg most days, and 14 on the road after a tune up! The '62 gets 10 mpg fast or slow heavy or light. With some loving, I imagine we might get 12 mpg out of her.

i got 19.6 on highway with my desmogged 60 with 30x9.50 tires
closer to 15 around town.

i recently put 31x11.50 swamper tsls on it, and pulled a pop up camper with the a/c blasting over 100 miles all highway and got around 12 mpg

before i desmogged i got 10mpg no matter what

A good tune is always a good idea. If $ permits a 5 speed will help on the highway. I run 33" mud tires and a flow master muffler, everything else is bone stock except the 5speed trans and Marks T-case gears. I get 12 around town and 17 on the highway. I'm easy on the gas but do 70 on the freeways.

My 60 has 350 crate engine with edelbrock/weber carb and edelbrock intake manafold but otherwise pretty much bone stock crate engine. I have a th350 transmission. I get about 10-12 MPG. 33x12.5 tires. Hwy speeds are about 65-70 max.

I get 11-12 city/ highway. Used to be 13. I need to inspect my plugs. No clue how many miles are on those :D

Rebuilt & de-smogged 2F with headers, full 2.5" exhaust and Weber 38.

If I kept my foot out of it I'd probably get 13-14. Pretty sure I have a lead foot.
