Been chasing down a fuel leak at the tank on a Japanese gas hilux.

Leaks when filled, to a point. Initially I suspected a leak at the fill/overflow hoses (red arrow), since it is lower than the high point of the tank. Gas tank of a 22R American truck shown for reference.

We pulled the bed off to get a better look.

Man, the 4 door truck looks absolutely hilarious without a bed on. 😄

Hard to tell in the picture, but due to the cab, this gas tank actually slopes down where the blue arrow is on above picture. So the leak was from the gasket where all the hardlines enter the tank. Looks like previous owner replaced a fuel pump, but the gasket was hard and cracked and they didn't bother with it.

Filling gas confirmed the leak. Fuel steadily leaks out until the upper part of the tank is level with the lower tier.

Fuel indicator is also nonfunctional on the dash. Luckily I've got a spare dash gauge. Planning to drop the tank this weekend and replace tank gaskets, check on the fuel pump, and tank level indicator.

Parts on order from Japan and UAE.
