1990 4Runner fuel leak when tank is near full (1 Viewer)

I have a 1990 4Runner, 3vze, automatic. Since I owned it, I noticed a strong gas smell when filling the tank to full or near full (I am not topping off). Once the tank gets between 3/4 and 1/2 full, the smell goes away.
Recently I noticed gas dripping from the tank when filled to just over 3/4 full. Once it got lower the 3/4 it stopped dripping. I assume it is coming from the top of the tank.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions before I drop the tank?

fill hose.
pull the panel under the rear seat to inspect line connections.

Take a look at the little studs and nuts around the fuel pump assembly if you can as well. I had some that had worked loose and the gasket was pretty crispy with age. I had the same symptoms as you.
