Garmin GPS V map compatibility

I know some of you guys have this particular unit, so I have a few questions. And Garmin's site hates my computer. So pardon the n00bishness.

Right now I have the Metroguide N/A v8 DVD. Will this be compatible? Also, what are you using for topo software?

I am not sure if the DVD will be compatible to the Garmin V. As for the TOPO stuff, I cannot comment because I do not use mine for that. Hopefully somone else comes along that has utilized theirs in this manner.

I use my V with NG Topo and Garmin Mapsource Topo. Not sure if it would work with the Metroguide. It does not have a ton of memory in it compared to the newer systems.

UPDATE

I got some Metroguide and Topo maps to fit on the unit. AND I got it to autoroute with Metroguide.

MUCH better than my previous Streetpilot Colormap...
