Has anyone done a painted garage floor surface here? I'm thinking about going with the Griot's paint on the floor but I'm scared that the weight and tires of the LC will tear it up. Just wondering if anyone here has done a floor covering and what type and what results?

There is a local place that will install their own(acid etch and paint) for about $3.00 a square foot and they offer a 10yr warranty. However, I'm skeptical of this as the warranty is only good for as long as they're in business......:)

Thoughts?

Do a search for "Epoxy Floor" in the outfitting and chit-chat forums. There you'll get lots of info.

I agree, it falls into 100 series tech. Who parks their 40,60,80 in the garage anyways? I don't, mine doesn't even fit! Only the LX and 100s require a nice painted floor ;)

snobs.

where's shotts with his "epoxy floors are almost as good as concrete floors" tag lines?

ROTFLMAO!

No, he "discovered" epoxy floors and they gave him a huge improvement in the cleanability and good looks of his garage! He also happened to know some people who wrote for home improvement mags, so he got his revolutionary garage floor featured! :grinpimp:

edit: For the record, my garage floor is NOT painted yet I still park my 100 there. Oh the humanity!

I always thought that painting the garage floor was the no. 2 sign that the house was about to be listed for sale. No 1 is painting the basement.

Having said that, my garage floor might look a lot nicer with some epoxy paint.

Paint ? .......The garage floor ?..

Sounds like WAY too much work ! ;p

I guess it wont matter anyways, `cause soon my 100 wont FIT in the garage anymore ! :frown:

the gtiots paint is really as good as they say it is. I painted our three car garage with it 3 years ago and it still looks perfect like the day i painted it. make sure you call and talk to them before you order because it is better to order too much than too little and they will tell you what you will need based on your garage size. good luck!

Just make sure you use a chemical respirator and ventilate the heck out of the area, if you paint it yourself.

(Ever wonder why so many painters have jaundice yellow in the corners of the whites of their eyes? )

I don't if this will help, but i painted mine with the two part paint from home depot, but the Lc only does in there is work has to be done to it.My supra sits in their, with carpet under the wheels ans so far no problem.

Go for it! As long as your garage floor isn't 20+ yrs old and the top layer is flakig away, you should be fine. Even on my 20+ plus house, the 2 part epoxy from Manard's is holding up great. Where the garage top layer is flaking off, the epoxy can't be blamed for that.

As with any painting project, do your prep work first. I degreased the floor first, then etched the entire floor wtih Muriatic acid (pool supply/hardware). This stuff does a great job of cleaning cement floor and costs only couple of bucks/gal. Then came the $50/gallon 2part epoxy paint and it looks great. I had to use 2 gallons for the entire garage since I laid it on pretty thick.

Hot tires on summer days hardly phases the paint. I've spilled brake fluid and cleaning solvent and wiped them right off. This stuff is a great bang for the buck.

At the time, Home Depot "claimed" to have a 2 part epoxy garage paint in a single can that I bypassed. My neighbor went this route and his paint began to lift off where the hot tires were parked. In about a year, majority of the high traffic paint was gone! He used the supplied acid in granular form to etch his floor.
