@MongooseGA i just made an order, #1073 and sent you an email to your contact about an order change thanks man!

Thanks! Was your previous name MongooseVA? Come back man!

Lol!

My name is actually G.A. and I had a Mongoose bike when I was 5. I've had this handle for decades. But! I am I'm VB several times per year, I'll actually be up there at the end of this month.

Mongoose was a very popular bike when I was young. That and GT's. You either rode one or the other

Some exciting things happening at The Artisan Garage !

I spent a few hours at the local fab shop today overseeing some initial bends on the MSS-L spoiler project. Things are looking good from the steel test piece, so I'll be ordering an aluminum one now to make a complete prototype and install on my own truck.

Check this out. Makes my little Swag Offroad 20-ton finger brake in my garage look like a toy!

Oh, what are those other pieces back there, you ask?

It's another new product that @LJE and I have been working on for a little bit. He had a great idea to make a cell phone mount to anchor to a bolt behind the HVAC vent. I posed, porque no los dos? Well with 2 anchored brackets, we came up with a cool idea to give you a dashboard accessory mounting platform that REQUIRES NO DRILLING in to your dash. I hate hate HATE seeing when guys drill in to their dashboards, so this is a really nice alternative to it. Mount your Go-Pros, radios, hula-girl, dildo, whatever you want!

Brackets not pictured, but we finally have a perfectly bent model to play with. This will ultimately be laser cut from 14ga steel, as will the brackets that anchor it behind the dash.

For those wondering, this is what the brackets will look like - they'll sneak out between the AC vent trim and the dash. There's a steel piece behind the AC vent that you'll take out a bolt from, put the bracket in place, and then reinstall the bolt through the bracket into the steel.

The CAD design tree for the brackets are probably bad enough to get classified as a crime against humanity, but hey, they do the job! Getting it to contour so nicely to the dash was still a challenge, but definitely would have been impossible without good 3D scan data.

There's no AC vent in the left hand side of the below scan.

Love the black finish, honestly. It picks up the black bezel and the stalks that are also black. No need to paint for me. Debating the clip on gage hood. ...nice touch to add it. Perfect solution for me.

Excellent!

Do I spy an e30 in the garage?

Im going to keep buying to help promote developing more products.

I certainly won't complain! So far every single dollar from the site has gone right back in to the business. Alex and I were just talking about a new product idea today.

I was one of the very early buyers of the tailgate system and meant to send a review after I bought it. Life got busy and I honestly forgot. But the great thing is that it has been in my LC for a 2 week long trip and a follow up week long trip. It has survived camping in the desert and being opened a thousand times.

I keep a ton of junk in it that I want to get to quickly when everything is loaded to the roof. It is an absolute game changer. It allows very easy access to quick need items and is completely invisible otherwise. And its tough enough to be walked on daily to get to the rack and sat on constantly. It is honesty;y one of teh most convenient parts of the truck.

I carpeted mine and installed it with 1/4 x 20 screws, because that's what I try to use on everything. Happy to answer "real world" questions, but the product is fantastic and MongooseGA was fantastic to work with. Pics below without the normal solar charge cable which is in use.

I'm glad you're loving it! Thanks for sharing 🙂

The first aluminum MSS-L unit is on the way! I Just placed the order with the local fab shop for it now. I'll do some test fitting and if all is well, we'll be going in to full production very soon!

Y'all, I am so excited about this thing. @LJE knocked it out of the park with the design and printed parts. All credit goes to him for this, other than my initial dream to assault people with their high beams on behind me with even brighter lights.

MSS-L v1 is complete and looks awesome. There are a few very minor adjustments to make but I'll be test fitting this on @CW100 's truck in 2 weeks. Surprisingly, he's the only guy I know within easy driving distance that has an original-style spoiler on his truck.

MSS-L shown in 1/8 aluminum. Also pictured with 3D printed light mounts for a pair of Baja Design S2 sport/pro lights, and 3D printed mounting brackets with aluminum strength plates.

Back of the unit. This is a 3-piece product, with the idea being that should someone change their needs over time, the wings can be available individually with different accessory features on them.

3D printed mounting brackets are side-specific, and feature an aluminum strength plate on each side. Maybe if I'm lucky, Alex will provide the engineering perspective. I've been at a tequila festival all day.

Rivnuts (or nutserts, depending on who you talk to) are inserted and affixed through one side, and socket head cap screws sandwich it together from the other side.

This is designed to fit right on to a 100 with the original black poly style spoiler using the original, existing holes in your hatch. For anyone else with no spoiler or a whale tail, a template will be provided for drilling new holes in your hatch, and the mounting brackets will serve as drill guides.

Gimme a few more weeks, I'll be getting these on The Artisan Garage.com!

Whoa, someone actually asking for my overly-pedantic explanation? That's a first! 🤣

The reason I included the aluminum side plates in the design for the bracket comes down to the best orientation to 3D print those. The brackets get printed laying on their side, like this:

Because 3D printing is an anisotropic process (i.e, you end up with different strengths in X/Y/Z), the weakest part of a 3D print is always going to be the bond between individual layers. Printing the brackets on their side like this already does a really good job of keeping the force of that the MSS-L applies to them parallel to the layers (i,e, not trying to pull them apart), minimizing chance of failure.
But, since these two brackets are responsible for keeping a non-trivial piece of aluminum on the back of your truck (it only weighs 4 lb or so, but that'd be bad coming through someone's windshield at 70mph), I needed to go to the next level. The aluminum plate on either side of the bracket effectively sandwiches the layers together - making it impossible for the bracket to split across a layer. These are way heavier duty than the OEM brackets, and being ASA they should hold up to long-term UV exposure great.

You'll also notice in the photos that @MongooseGA posted that there's neoprene foam gasket material to seal against the body of the truck and the MSS-L, maintaining the factory waterproofing. Stainless steel nuts also get inserted into the printed part, so at no point are you threading into plastic. They're very robust.

Quick little update: we found out that the Auxbeam Switchboard Mounting Bracket is NOT compatible on 06-07 models. Evidently y'all have some extra bits in that space.

But fret not! Alex @LJE is working on a fix with one of the buyers that may allow the 06-07 guys to still use the bracket.

If you've purchased one of these items and have a 2006-7 model, and would like to return it, please shoot me a message. If you'd like to wait for the fix, I'll send it out to you at no cost if/when it becomes available.

Hopefully should be done later this weekend! Just need some measurements from the guy with the 06 that found the problem. I have no idea what this computer is, but it's not in an 03-05. It's in the way of the Auxbeam relay box mount I designed.
The fix is just a simple bracket that'll allow you to attach the computer to the bottom side of the Auxbeam mount - that should be able to be printed out of the glass-fiber reinforced ASA.
