Deal. Thanks

@jynx I'm excited about this build, whichever one you build into the trail truck, you should put a full float rear from a later model 80...is the plan to bob the body any?

thanks Nick. As far as direction it is one of those things that will evolve into something. Current Drivetrain plan is (dependent on finding everything) 3FE -> H42 -> Toybox -> Split case -> FF Rear. The toybox will come later, H42 and split case are probably going to have to be fairly soon. Bruce already has a FF swapped in, the Deuce is a SF, and will probably stay that way for now. Would love to build a 9.5" front with a set of hellfire knuckles, but that is going to be way down the line. (Nick you still got all you bits for your 9.5 front build?)

Been looking at tires and which rig will probably dictate the interim, but eventually would like to get up to some 37's or 39's, really like the Maxxis creppy crawlers, but who knows where it will land. Suspension will be as needed to clear tires, planning to trim wheel wells as needed.

Body - for now, thinking of keeping at least the bulk of the cab. So the doors can go back on in cold or wet weather, but probably some type of interior cage with some exo bits where the 80 would need it. For example some type of rub rail under the rear windows that would tie into a rear bumper. For bumpers, probably do Lukes rear since I could incorporate it into a frame bob if it comes to that. I always liked the Binks Fab front and even though he isn't building them anymore, I am going to see if I might be able to get the pattern, or perhaps even a stack of cut plate to weld together. For sliders, I have been pondering a boatside type cut that would trim the pinch weld and replace the rocker with a rectangular tube with frame ties and a rub rail.

And just see how it goes from there. I expect this will be a long process, similar to the Toyrd and will evolve over time.

Right now the short list is going to be a CAT to get it thru emissions, tag and title it. Then probably a set of Ironman coils, Doestech shocks and some new tires. Coils and shocks should run me under $500 and then tires to fill the wheelwells. Then a call to Cruiserparts.net for their 60/62 manual trans kit and source the 42 and split case so I can get the trans out of the way. Then we will go from there.

All that will probably get repeated in another thread, when I get one started. Problem right now is where to put it at. 80 section would get some traffic, but don't really care about lots of people telling me about paint and radios, so may just put it in a clubhouse.

Need to get some good pictures of what we are starting with and see where we go from there. Looks to be another fun one, and mamma is on board, and we all know what happens when mamma gets behind one.... :steer:

CruiserYard is another great source for used parts. Jason is out of Texas and is awesome to deal with on parts.

You going with a 4 in. Ironman setup?

FYI- the harder the trails, the more the body of an 80 hinders you...ask me how I know

ask him what 39s does to front axles too...

Enter the 9.5" build. If I can find a toybox, ask me what 39's and 202:1 under a 4,000 lb rig does to a stock axle... :smokin:

Not sure on the lift. kind of looking at just getting it up on maybe a set of 35s for now, so may just do some 2" coils for now. That helps keep the caster issues at a minimum for now.

Yeah i got that but you lost me after the gear ratio... :flipoff2:

Maybe the new rig should be called fata$$, especially if I'm gonna follow you skinny mini's around.

mud member, mel lowe, in Florida has all the parts necessary for a 3fe to manual swap and he's been great to deal with in my experience. halls 80s are gonna be even more awesome now btw. Aidan and I are jealous haha.

Edit: and if you don't find a toy box, NWF "blackbox" would be freaking awesome... i want one...

Thanks Patrick on both fronts. I completely forgot about the NWF black box. If my hunt for a toybox isn't successful by December I will be placing an order for one of those jewels. About what the toybox was new, and it is actually available.

Grabbed a couple pics at lunch today. Using it to haul a load of stuff to the barn today.

I adjusted the trans cable at the throttlebody, I think it needs more and I can't tell if it helped much. May fiddle with it more when we get back to the house.

Maybe I should send Patrick some dues monies....

Text, email, pm or phone call work best for you?

If I had just bought a computer, I would do that too vs. getting it wet!
