Just got my 76 series kitted out with a 4" EFS lift, 33" tires, 180L Long Ranger fuel tank, ARB bumper and a Warn 9000lbs winch. It comes with a 1GR-FE motor putting out 228hp. Its a dream:beer:

The FJCruiser on the other hand has the same motor but goes up to 257hp. It belongs to my cousin, and has a 6" lift, 35 MT, ARB front and rear lockers, and a Manafee fuel tank.

Wouldn't that be a grj-76
very nice rig though I would have the wagon over the fj any day

Nice nice .. how it's the rear leaf suspension performing with that much leave and arch ?

I put a VDJ76 in my list for future .. but wonder about the rear suspension, between re doing it to coils and links or just a SO with flat soft spring packs

Hi All:

Cool!

I thought all the 76 Series were equipped with the 4500cc V-8 turbo diesel. Toyota should have slapped the 5.7L V-8 petrol in that rig!! :D

I'd take the 76 Series over the FJ Cruiser any day; it is a real Land Cruiser!

Regards,

Alan

In Australia they are all V8 turbo diesel, middle east seems to be getting the 1GR now, not sure about other countries, Europe/Africa was(is?) still getting the 1HZ in the newer body shape Troopies and utes/pickups, South America was still getting the 1FZ in the new body shape but I think they have gone to 1GR as well.

Hey ColdTaco...yeah its a custom paint job on the fjcruiser...they used a Toyota colour code (i can find out the code if your interested). farkin awesome if you ask me!

Tapage...i'm facing a bit of an issue with the rear leafs, as they are the stock leafs reset to give a 4" lift with some added leafs. You see, i bought the 4" coils and 4 X shocks from my dad's 79 pickup, but the rear leafs on the 79 dont fit on the 76, hence the reason i reset the leafs on the 76.

I want to do a SOA conversion but unfortunately I am not mechanically inclinded and cant find anyone to do it for me in these areas. do you have any ideas?

With all due respect to your cousin that FJ Cruiser should be parked in the background maybe even around the corner and out of sight:)
Your Cruiser on the other hand is way cool. .....1978HJ45

Gawd that's a beautiful wagon. Any shots of the interior? Why SOA? Depending on your intentions for it, I'd consider going to a smaller lift, such as OME, with new components front and rear.

I don't know about your side of the world, but here in Australia you can order custom leaf spring packs from a few different suspension manufacturers. Standard leaf springs reset higher ends up being way too rough.

Thanks. I'll snap some interior shots tomorrow hopefully. As for the smaller lift, maybe that does make more sense. We do mostly sand driving and overland trips. SOA doesnt make sense I know. I'm stopping by the local ARB guy tomorrow to see if they have any 2" OME coils.

herbs...we dont have the plethora of suspension options here in Saudi. Most of the stuff is imported, (from Aus too), and it takes quite a while to get here. you're right though, the rear springs are a bit harsher now than before.:meh:

the 71 series swb hardtop that appears in the video has the 1gr-fe engine or 1fz-fe?

What is your opinion on the performance of 1gr-fe engine? torque...

Hi All:

boozewz, thanks for the video clip! :)

That beige 70 Series SWB is a nice little rig! Do you know whether it runs the same engine and transmission as the 76 Series wagon?

Regards,

Alan

The new 2010 models have the 1GR engine for the 71 SWB, the 76 MWB 4 door, and the 79 pickup. I believe they all have the same gearbox and drivetrain. The 78 troopy, comes with a 1HZ.

The 1GR is awesome, with some solid torque. It doesnt have the same as the 1FZ, but its not that noticeable. Where it is much more noticeable is in the fuel economy, whereby the 1GR is much better. Not that we care here in Saudi where fuel runs at 16 cents per litre.

The most popular of the above are the 71 and 79 series. They sell like hotcakes. The 76 is extremely rare as they dont import that many of them, and the 78 troopy I suspect is no longer imported unless by special order.
