I am still chasing electric gremlins. I decided to replace the 3 fusible links.
I found tons of good info from another thread by bj40green.
Here it is Fusible Link; which one for my '78 BJ40?
I bought the fusible link wires from NAPA.
I wanted to reuse the quick disconnect plug that two of them run through.
With a tiny thin screwdriver I was able to get the female disconnects out of their plug/socket.
Here's a shot of the original connectors trailing some old fusible link wire.
I could see that I would have to reproduce the original tangs to keep the connectors from sliding out of their plug. Also, these connectors are 8mm wide. Not something I can buy at a store around here.
I ended up ordering new 8mm Sumitomo connectors from an interesting shop in Japan.
Main
The new connectors' tangs were protruding in the wrong direction to catch hold in the plastic plug.
I took a different small screwdriver and tapped the tang back through the connector until it was sticking out the right way.
After that, I crimped and soldered the new connectors on.
Then slid them back into their plug.
Snapped the two parts together.
