Hey Wayne... how does that little 2lt push those split wheels and tyres?
very nicely, i put 320 km on the truck since friday and on the highway the truck just purred with those tires. no problems on the hills and no overheating detected (no pyro installed yet).
off road the tires performed excellent althought he open rear diff left soemthing to be desired when running wiht 4 other locked rigs with larger tires. in one particular portion of the trail system we drove i had to winch at least 6 times to go less than a km. but i put Berni behind the wheel and the truck just rocked. after our run up the trail there were 3 other units that needed either winching or pulling to get through so the little girl held her own after all.
as it turns out this is Berni's new "winter beater" and trail rig. i have a feeling she will be driving it on the river shiver.

the truck has really bored a soft spot into my soul. it is so tiny, such a small engine and diffs that it should have left us stranded.

the winch sure paid for itself this past weekend. i LOVE the 8274!
cheers

The tires in question are 7.50R16 BFG "Jeep Serivice" Tires.

Not sure which math Wayne was using to get 33" At best, they are a macho 31", and as the name implies 7.5" wide.

I would know, I had to remove 25 of them, including the 4 in Wayne's pictures, from the stock split rims they arrived on (and no, my labour was not calculated that $35 price tag, but they were cluttering up my shop and in my way)

I can't recall if they had the holes for studding in them.

As to how well they work... I went wheeling with one of Wayne's LJ71's equiped with a set of these tires on Canada Day weekend. I was not impressed. These tires ripped giant gashes through the muskg as they "dig down and grip good ah?" as gold boy surmised. Nor did the seem to have very good traction on the wet river bed rocks. I'm not sure if it was because they were not aired down, but my not-aired-down Michelins didn't have any problems.... until two of them were ripped off the rims... heh heh....

Anyway, a good cheap tire for gravel and dirt roads, absolutely. But not in the league of serious off-road rubber like my lovely michelins, I would suggest.

actually Peter, these one arrived by truck on Tuesday and the ones on the red truck arrived direct from Ens.

the tires performed fine on the wee bit of river bed we crossed and the tires performed excellent for what they are. there is no comparision between 38" monster meats with a skinny 33" (i will take a tape and give an acurate measurement sometime this week).

hummm, if i remember the story correctly, Bryan had driven through the same hole with no problems that ate 2 of your mich, monster tires....

less than impressed? i think that 13BT locked front and rear, SOA and 38s BJ74 SHOULD perform better than an open diffed stock height 33" skinnies 2LT LJ71...no?

Happened to have a used one in the shop. Unmounted and unweighted 30.75"

Mine definatly measure 31's.... 8.25 would be a 33" tire. Which is what I'd ultimately like to find...

Michelin make off road tire? I don't believe you what ones are those?

I'd love to find a michelin 8.25 but I hear they are impossible to come by. Does anyone know another at/mt in 8.25x16?

Bummer, I was interested in them if they were 33". Oh well...

Na...no other 8.25 in North America that I know about. If the level of world conflict ever goes back a little, they may well start becoming freed up for public consumption again.

Nice LJ71 Wayne. Looks really "sick" (to quote my 12 year old son) with the upgrades.

That is basically my dream Cruiser......33" with no lift, decent gas mileage, and a diesel of course.

Bob

i sit corrected, the tires i am running do only stand 31" tall.
this being said i have run 33" tall skinnies on the LJ71s with no lift and no rub...

your young lad has good taste..

I also like the rims you have on the LJ. They look like the OEM rims on my 40.

Speaking of the 2L-T. I found a site where someone actually swapped swapped in a 2L-T in place of his 22RE (4X4 Mini-Truck).

He says the 2L-T is a direct bolt in for the U.S. trucks that came with a 5 Speed and a 22RE engine.
Amazing what us unfortunate souls in the U.S. will do to get a Toyota diesel. ;-)

I even saw a 1985 2-wheel drive Hi-Lux PU go for $3500 on Ebay, and it was NOT in the best condition.

It was that cdn tape measure ;)

I've had my 31's stuffed and rubbing with new OME... Those stock springs must be in really great shape no to do that.

the splits came off the PZJ75 and i couldn't give them away so i decided to give them a try. at below 105 km/hr you can not tell the difference but over that and you can tell you need a balancing, i do not kow how you would balance a split rim...
now i am thinking of seeing if i can find another set of 6 bolt factory splits ...

Yeah.. i figured the coils might not sag as bad as leafs.

FWIW mine have lead weights on them for balance. inside and outside and I don't have any vib up to 75mph (downhill)

Eric, you must be new here. This should catch you up to the rest of us...

Clearly, I cannot keep up with all your wheel dealings!

Well, I supose that's open to interpretation. One person might drive into the 3 foot deep mud, another drives over the bushes in the virgin muskeg to avoid the 3 foot deep mud, yet both drivers would vehemently claim to have drive the same 'trail'. If that's how you interpret things, then yes, Bryan "drove through teh same hole with no problems that ate two of my mega-michelins".
