Do me a favor and copy and past the result of executing "ls -al" from the Downloader folder.

the response starts at "-bash:...

i think files are executing but the command syntax is wrong.

if i drag and drop wget from a downloader directory into the terminal box I get this comman line:

"d207-216-140-108:~ *****$ /Users/*******/Desktop/landcruiser/1993\ landcruiser/1993\ Toyota\ Landcruiser\ ATM\ Unit\ Repair/Downloader/wget"

and if i hit return this is what I get

"wget: missing URL
Usage: wget [OPTION]... ... Try `wget --help' for more o...ted scheme. d207-216-140-108:~ *******$"[/B]

In your Terminal window, what does a pwd tell you? I suspect that wget is not "here" relative to your current working directory, and/or you need to cd to where wget is and "chmod 777 wget"

Yeah, what is the deal with this drag and dropping? Stop doing that goofball!

Open up a terminal and cd to the downloader directory so the relative paths make sense and then it will work.

Yeah, what is the deal with this drag and dropping?

it's an apple. that's just how we roll.

I can't see why dragging and dropping the downloader directory wouldn't work but I will try using a manually typed cd command. i am confused by the chmod command i am supposed to be using. is it chmod 777 or chmod u=rwx ?

Either chmod will work for your purposes; 777 is less typing.

Dragging won't work because computers, even those made by Apple, are dumb. When you execute a command, your working environment is always "here." "Here" is wherever you are at the time, as indicated on your prompt, e.g. MAC-150:~ hughese$ for me. Anything I type in right now will take place in ~, alias /Users/hughese.

The script requires that "here" is a specific place when you start it. Unless you cd to the directory where the script resides, the script's idea of "here" and the reality of "here" are not the same.

Thus the error -- I can't find wget. It's not here.

ok, so i guess dragging and dropping a directory doesn't execute a change directory command. it just puts you there for one line.

that helps. thanks.

Are you too legit to quit yet?

Nate, I agree with you. I checked out the TIS site and the improvements they were making, and I thought they were learning from what you have done. Not as effective as what you have done, but for the average user it will be a great improvement.

July 17 is not far away.

Thanks for all the help. The scripts work great. It is satisfying to take printouts to the shop to explain what you want done - it saves the tech time looking it up (even Toyota).

edit: never mind

i got it to work. too late to actually download anything tonight but, finally, it works!

Thanks so much for devoting as much effort into this as you have. You have explained all this so paitently that I think I even have a chance at pulling this off.

Dan, are you logged in and filtering just to toyota.com ?

I am on vista/firefox2 and it works fine. Let me know, be sure to follow the instructions carefully.

working now...guess I had to try three times :)

SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

The new TIS site has changed the way alot of stuff works, and it may be a while/if ever when I get to fixing it.

Glad so many people were able to solve stuff because of this; I'll look into the feasibility of continuing this in the future.

I saw the TIS change and jumped 2 days before...now you know why! :)
