With out reading through all 13 pages, is it possible for someone to forward/send me the FSM for the 80 series (HDJ81)?

-JK
Unfortunately, no, because that is copyright infringement and illegal.

Jeff,

IIRC the electronic versions of the FSM are around 30+ Megs each. They are broken into numerous sections (like Suspension and Axle) and then each of those sections are in turn broken down into lots of subsections (say front coil springs), which then yet again are broken down into multiple .pdf files

It doesn't really lend itself to being emailed and I'm not sure but I would imagine there might be some legal issues with one person DL'ing the FSM(s) and then sharing them

If not someone probably would have set up a server by now with requested FSMs and just let people start DL'ing them...

Edit: What Gator says :) - I need to learn to be a little more "concise"

Nate has made it quite clear that he does not condone "sharing" of the downloaded documents using his automated process. Not only is that illegal, it is just plain wrong and he has stated that he will HALT all downloading of his scripts if he finds that anyone is not following his simple rules.

I applaud him for this philosophy and for his hard work.

Fair enough. If it so happens that this FSM does come available again(80 Series - '91 HDJ81), could someone let me know or point me in the right direction?

Jeff,

AFAIK the FSMs are still available, it is just that the work Nate did to make it super simple for folks to DL it doesn't work now with the changes Toyota did to the site. If you can wait a couple months he might have it corrected to work...Otherwise, you can go ahead and down load the FSM the old fashioned way.

I read through the posts, saw that it is september, just wanted to bump to see if the nice guys here had had the time to dive into the problem again and see if they had written new programs for the new site? Thanks!

Hello...
I am looking to download a manual for a 2003 Lexus GX 470.......Trying to download it all at once, instead of article by article like you were able to do with the old TIS site....Hope you guys can help or know of anyone else that has found a way to do this with the new website........

Thanks.....

It is possible for it to be done with the new site, but I won't be programming it this time until Toyota writes me a letter specifically allowing me to do it or hell freezes over, whichever happens first.

Better start praying for freezing temps in hell, gents ;)

Did somebody give you a hard time about the old packages???

I hope not.

nate i doubt the new interface was to stop you rather than simply an attempt at a more user friendly interface. i can't see anything illegal in what you are doing. people have the right to download content they pay for. many of those buying it would not normally pay to access the site.

I learned the hard way that many sites do not want you spidering their junk and downloading it all en masse. I've never looked at how this was setup, but I'd imagine it was a very large wget or curl list. While not illegal, it's not smiled upon by most.
Heavy bandwidth loads scare some sys admins. :flipoff2:

i do not doubt they do not want it. even craigslist works to defeat craiglist search engines. the question is whether there is anything wrong with it.

Nate...

Just checked and the temp in hell is at a cool 36 degrees and falling...so getting close to freezing........:)

I can totally understand your concern...this was just the only place I found where I could download all at once and not have to do it piece by piece......Also, its really hard to find a paperback FSM for a Lexus 2003 GX 470 without calling the dealer and paying way too much........But it can be done......

This is the vague verbiage I re-read and reconsidered...

It doesn't make alot of sense though, because inherently your computer downloads the files anyways when you view them. Regardless, I'm not a lawyer and don't have a legal background, but the ones I talked to said "tread lightly" so I am.

After much thought about downloading all the files and compiling my own full electronic copy, I figured I would get a lot more use out of the paper copy. It ended up costing me less than $90 from an online Lexus parts place (the nearest Lexus dealer wanted about $160  ).

It may seem like a lot when you compare it to the $10 fee at Toyota's site, but really - which are you going to use more? Its a small price to pay when you consider the savings of not having a dealer tech do the maintenance/repair work for you.

i don't think many here would do without the paper FSM for their year and model but there are other manuals available that are less used but still useful as well as for other years for those of us who are, for example, trying to wire 97 technology into a 93...

I don't have paper copies of any of mine....I just print the pages and toss them later. I occasionally take the laptop out to the ship as well....

The Toyota and Lexus marks and designs may not be used, downloaded, copied or distributed in any way.

They are saying about marks and designs and not the site contents. This could be probably to stop aftermarket companies copying part designs and producing them.

Viewing a PDF equals downloading it. I don't see any problem. But if you feel like you don't want to continue this stuff, please send me a PM and I have a solution.

As far as downloading is concerned, Toyota definitely could be frustrated. Imagine a typical guy... He needs info so he buys access. He doesn't get all the info so he buys once again. And a month later, maybe one more time because there's some information he needs, etc... So the guy leaves around $30-40 versus the guy with the program who gets it all in a matter of 20 minutes.

But legally both things are downloading and are an equal action. There is no information that download aids can't be used. Your program is a helper just as a fast connection would be or fast fingers and mouse to perform 'save file as...'.

But anyway, Nater, let me know if you don't want to be involved anymore.
