That is a good lesson for rebuilding the hubs. Just one comment, when you hammer the cones out it damages the inside surface of the axel. Just run a fine file around it and take the high spots off. If you dont the axel will come loose and the studs will snap.

That's a good point, even better is to use a brass drift or punch and hit the studs head on - pops them right out.

Thanks for watching!

I will have to check my books tomorrow. I don't measure the torque though because I don't have the SST, so I just tighten/loosen, then measure the preload - always works fine for me. My biggest problem is water contamination.

got it .. I'm not fan of the fish scale tho .. so I would need to fab some kind of SST

Maybe I'll buy a better scale one day - but for the last 40 -50 times I have done it I have never had a problem.

Hi All:

Great tutorial on the rear LC FF axle Louis!

Thanks for sharing with us!

Nice vid mate ,
What's the reading on the fish hook you used
To make installing the "race" / bearing cup easier if you don't have a press , before you start pulling the rig apart, put the new races in the freezer until your ready to put them in the hub

Hi Mate, good idea - will try that for the front hub install next week. Can't remember the values for the scale, I used the manual, but honestly, I have set them many times by feel (flame away) and never had a problem.

Its the same thing what we do with the cilinder of the pistons on a overhole of a engine.

Hi All:

No worries Louis! Stop by Seattle and perform the service on the SF rearend in my FJ40! :D I have new bearings, seals, etc. on hand.

Hi, nice video:)

I just regreased my bearings on the left side before watching video, but i did it right.

Those cone washers wasn´t easy to get out

Should i think of someting special if i change bearing on the right side?

I have electric diff lock... or is it just the same?

Haven't done it yet, waiting on some parts to arrive by canada post - they are on strike! Hopefully soon though!
