Fuel System Problems

I just bought a new gas tank for my 1973 FJ40 and after installing it I have run into a new problem that I can't fix. There is no fuel going to my fuel lines! I have filled the tank half way and it won't get any fuel in the lines. When I blow through the lines into the tank, normally I should hear bubbles, but I don't. You can't even tell that there is fuel in the tank. Any ideas on what is wrong?

I would double check which lines/fittings are connected... Probably an easy fix. Start at the source...

Pull the tank and tip it to see if anything comes out from where you connect the fuel line. Might have something in the tank blocking it.

Is the tank the only thing you changed?
Why did you change it?
If you had crap in the tank it could have clogged the fuel line or filter.
Did you connect return line(s) as well? Many replacement tanks do not have the same connections as the tank it replaced. I had to add a return line nipple to mine.

If it were me I would tip the tank first. If fuel comes out where it should...

Disconnect fuel lines and make sure they are not blocked.

Replace fuel filter(s) many of us run one before and after the pump.

Test it.

Sorry it has taken so long to answer you. Yes, I have tried tipping the tank, and that is the only way I can get fuel to come out. All of the lines are new and I changed the tank because the original one began to rust and it was clogging my lines. On the original tank, there is no return line for the fuel, but underneath the new tank there is. I am scrambling my brain to figure this out. Hope someone out there can help me!

Is it possible that on this new tank the line underneath that you call a return line is actually the supply line and the return fuel is supposed to go in where you are trying to get fuel out? That's a complete shot in the dark but it is something to check out.
