Guess it's time to replace the fuel pump. Is aftermarket ok? (alot cheaper than OEM). If OEM, who's got the best prices from the vendors here on Mud?

I would say go OEM on anything you can. Try Sam Stewart from Lowe Toyota. He is in the Vendor Section amongst other places.

You can find a beck arnley mechanical on rock auto for about $60. They are a good quality company if you don't want to pay full price for the OEM, which will run you around $100.

Whatever you do DO NOT go with an electric pump. There are many threads on here with issues with them, stick with mechanical.

Beck Arnley is usually OEM in a different box. Carter makes a great mechanical pump. After all, it's a fuel pump, not a piston, I'm sure anything domestic or Japanese will be just fine.

That is like saying "Close counts in horseshoes and lawn darts."

Kyosan pump at NAPA. Get it there in a blue box, or at the dealer in a red one, for twice the price.

You'll need a spacer block (Advance has them for about $4, NAPA didn't have one). Toyota has the spacer block with two paper gaskets already glued to it for $11.00.

Okay here's a random queation. as forestdan7 noted, napa part m70266 is the Kyosan pump in a napa branded box. I also see that on Amazon, the carter fuel pump also references "m70266" in the description.

Any chance that the Carter pump is also a Kyosan in a Carter box?

The pictures also look identical.

I used to like AirTex stuff, I think they were better than OE. Not so sure on the asian stuff tho. AirTex may be "made in China" now. Make sure you check your engine oil level (and do the smell test), a leaking fuel pump can dump gasoline into your crankcase and ruin your engine.

So I rolled the dice on the Carter pump referenced above, and was pleased to find out it was a Kyosan pump(oem I think) in a carter box. Made in Japan.

If that is just a gasket, you are missing the insulator needed to make the pump fit correctly.

Technically, an insulator fused with 2 gaskets on both sides.

Thanks beno. I also have an insulator/spacer from beck arnley that wasn't in pic. And 2 thin gaskets came with carter/Kyosan pump.

Changing the pump made a huge difference at start up. Now it starts with one turn of the key! It's like a new truck now.

Btw the bolts that attach the pump are 12mm, and mine where hard to find due to thirty year of gunk build-up!
