I understand that the posted min oct for the Supercharger is 91, yet as always I begin to question. Has anyone tried to find a way to run the lower octane fuel? Maybe an air to water intercooler, aftermarket timing reduction devices or a fuel controller. Am I way off base here? I would find the possible monetary savings the incentive.

Your actual octane requirement will depend on a number of factors. In some areas the maximum octane is 91, while in others it may be 93 or 95 (or higher). The TRD supercharger manual states that you should always run 92 octane or higher. For some of us, that's not possible, so the next best thing is 91 (e.g., CA).

Anything you can do to reduce predetonation will help you lower the octane requirement. One has to hope/assume that TRD did this, but there are some things worth mentioning:

1. Intercooler
2. Water/MeOH injection
3. MR2 Spark Plugs (cooler heat range plugs)
4. Larger Pulley (lower boost)
5. Go easy on the right-hand pedal

Finally, if you're worried about the cost of premium vs regular, how bad can it be? You already have an expensive truck to run (12-17 mpg) and you are planning to or just bought a TRD supercharger (at least $3K). At the going difference between regular and premium (about $.20) it will cost you no more than $4-5 per tank to run premium. Just pucker up and live with it. :D

Do not consider forced induction if you intend to run anything but the highest octane pump gas available. That is an oxymoron.
