Anybody have a picture, or could I get somebody to take one, that shows how the stock location, with the factory bracket, of the fuel filter on a 75/40 with 2F motor, looks.

I just got my hands on the factory bracket that bolts to the side of the battery tray, that holds the filter, but I am not liking the way it looks when I install it the way it seems to fit best.

The SOR catalog doesnt show it in relation to the battery tray.

Tried search, no pics that I could find.

Any help would be Great.

Steve, I have a hunch the 'stock'bracket you have acquired is for the 1970 and older fuel filter [the glass bowl type] which had a threaded stud coming out of the top of the filter. IT passed thru an 8mm hole in the horizontal tab of an otherwise vertically oriented bracket. Sound familiar?

It is like this?

Definitely not the one in Coolerman's picture, Dang it, I should have taken a pic.
It is more of a modified flat Z configuration, has a captive nut on the end that would accept the filter and filter bracket, the other end bolts to the side of the battery support, I have the thing in place but it just seems like its out of place, I am trying to figure where the filter is supposed to locate in relation to the dizzy, one way the filter sits between the dizzy and the alternator above the oil cooler (its a 76 engine in my 75), the other way it sits next to the battery support back near the fender, but it wont seem to sit in a vertical orientation, like I think it should.

Hmmm...is that the factory loc? I dont see the bracket, I do see the band bracket that comes with the filter and I have been attempting to mount the filter on the other support for the battery tray, I will have to check that spot.

Is it a 75 filter? I'm guessing here, from how my 73 was, and it was similar to a 75.

The open hole in your little bracket would bolt under the rear bolt of the battery tray, top surface of the frame. It protrudes towards the engine, with the captive nut sticking out there and to the rear.

The filter simply bolts to that, it lays horizontally, not vertically. Looking at Specters photo you can see the way the filter should lie.

Make sure you are using the proper steel fuel line. The return line will not pull fuel from the bottom of the tank. They can be mixed up at the tank, unless you have never had them apart. What I'm getting at, is the proper feed and return lines come off the frame below the battery differently. If they have been mixed up it can make the rubber lines run funny. They may look kinked and such, as one accomodates the return jumping back over from the engine, and the other just sticks up, then a short peice of rubber in a pretty tight corner, then another peice of rubber to the nipple on the fuel pump.

OK, I understand the bolt you are talking about, it makes sense that it could work in that loc, and quite frankly, I guess it doesnt really matter where the filter is located, what has me stumped is there is a little spot of surface rust, that has the same exact shape as the tab on the bracket, in the spot that I have this thing installed, I am trying to believe that this was the factory location as it would put all of the hoses in position to have really smooth radiuses, easy access to the filter, seperate attachment point for the bracket, but it just doesnt want to look right to me.
It's frigging funny, I can drive around with seats that are full of holes, bad paint, drivers side quarter panel that got hit by a bobtail, yet the little details drive me nuts.

Bought some more fuel line, so when I get home I will fool around some more, I will post up some pics.

Which end of the battery tray are you trying to attach it too. the only captured nut I can think of on the tray is on the front, and a steel rod bolts there and goes to the radiator support, do you have that?

Otherswise, I'd mount it whereever. Persoanlly the stock location sucks, I put in an early filter with the little bowl and such, because they were cool. It also allowed me to run a steel fuel line from the filter to the pump. The rubber lines kept cracking on me. That almost elimated all the rubber lines in the engine bay. Now to run all steel for the PCV and I will be much better off. So far the metal line from the filter to the pump has held up fine, filter bracket I made has some shock and give to it. But either way, it is too low, you can't see very well down there and it spills all over. Actually it needs to be higher so the tank doesn't try to siphon on you.

If you are standing at the passenger side fender, facing the engine compartment, battery in stock location, look straight down the left side of the battery, on the left battery support, just under the battery tray, maybe 1/2",the forward part of the support closest to the engine, there is a captive nut, mine had a bolt in it and a rust spot, its not a spot for a support, and the ground is on the other side to the frame.

PO took tons of parts off but always seemed to leave a bolt in the holes.

I have no idea. :) My FJ is a 1971...
I was just browsing my 1976 FJ40 picture data base and found that pic with a filter. It's the only one I had that shows a filter.

Well, I spent some time and came up with what seems to be the best location, I still feel like its not right but its the best I can figure, the only reason it seems incorrect is that I have not seen, at least on my rig, anyplace that Toyota originally bolted one bracket on top of another, it always seems everything has its own spot, so unless I can get another answer, this it where it stays.

Also included is a pic for Coolerman, the spot that the filter in your pic is bolted, at least on my rig, is the hole for the radiator support rod.

First is the Radiator support
Second is where it was
Third is where it now resides, MoCo Native seems right.

Thanks for the support, and if somebody has a better idea, Please let me know

That's stock location. I know what you mean about the bracket not seeming right, but it is.

I also think I know the bolt you are talking about, but I can't recall what went on it.

on my 67 it has the arm like in coolerman's picture. It's bolted onto the back of the battery tray on the firewall side. I'm not sure what the newer 40's fuel filter bracket looks like.

I recieved an email from another cruiserhead with an excellent picture that confirms there are at least 3 of us with the filter in the same location, so I am going to call it a wrap.

It's a bmp.file, so I dont know how to upload it, if someone wants a really clear picture, of a really fine restoration, of the fuel filter location, PM me your email and I will shoot it over to you.

Or somebody tell me how to upload a bmp.file and I will post it

Thanks
