Fuel filter help

Sorry for the duplicate post, I used the wrong account the first time.
Guys,
My fuel pump went south on my 02' LC at 300,001 miles. Seriously?
Anyway, took it to Uncle T and $835.00 later, I have a new fuel pump, filter, and bushing. When they replace the fuel pump, the filter they replace with it, wouldn't that be the filter on the drivers side, under the hood above the wheel well? I looked at it, and it looks dusty, and old like it did when I took it to them. I am having serious doubts whether they actually replaced it. Before I go making accusations I was hoping to get some feedback on this from the real pros. Is there another filter inside the tank near the actual pump? I tried to do a search on this, and the only one I can find is under the hood. Any help would be appreciated.

There is a pre-filter screen in the tank, I am assuming that's what they replaced.

I'd go ahead and replace the one in the engine bay if you haven't yet.

OEM filter lasted 300k, I see no reason to save a buck on an aftermarket fuel filter when the new OEM filters are just $30.

No, the input fitting is a compression fitting only requiring wrench for removal (like a hard brake line). The output fitting can be removed by squeezing the green clip with your fingers. Take care not to break this clip. You will need to reuse it. *At least for a US rig*

My car has the 6 cylinder but the fuel filter part number is the same as the UZJ, I will keep that in mind when I come around to changing the filter. Thank you!

Thanks for the input. The filter you guys are talking about changing is the one under the hood, correct? I am just confused as to why on the parts list on my invoice, "fuel filter" is listed, but they did not replace the fuel filter underneath the hood. I'm going there tomorrow, I was just hoping for more input so I can go there and be able to understand. The fuel filter they charged me for cost $17.00 according to my invoice at the dealer. I'm thinking the filter in the engine bay would cost much more than that, being a metal canister. Thanks again for the input.

You are correct.

The Toyota Parts diagram calls the strainer/sock attached to the fuel pump, in the tank, "Fuel Filter" with 'Land Cruiser; Fuel Pump' in the notes #23217-74021 ($8.13 online). The under hood fuel filter is also called "Fuel Filter" in the parts diagram but with 'Land Cruiser; Engine' in the notes #23300-50090 ($29.14 online).

Mine was crazy tight as well. I PB Blaster it for days, and then try again. I think the third or forth time I tried, it finally let go. I am probably over cautious, but I was afraid of bending/snapping the fuel line

@pndavis4 I would replace the fuel filter in the engine bay if it never been replaced. Mine after 80K, the filter media do not look good. Fuel Filter Replacement? Yes? No?

The filter they changed was in the tank, some people call them a pickup sock, it's mounted on the end of the pickup tube that feeds fuel to your in tank pump. It's not there to filter out real fine stuff, it's there to filter out boulders and elephants, the filter in your engine bay is the one that filters out all the fine stuff.

Dealer here wants $50 versus $16 for WIX which is a decent filter. Pushing a fuel filter 300k which is so inexpensive and easy to replace, is being really cheap.

I cut open the WIX the PO had on there are the media looked fine, not separating, no rust, no problem.
