Is there a big difference between these two gas filters:
23303-64010
23303-56040

I just bought the 23303-64010 and it fits perfectly, but a friend of mine who's been working on these engines for years claims the 23303-64010 is really made for the 1HZ, and that the 23303-56040 is better suited to the turbo engine, and that because of its bigger size, fuel flows much better to meet the needs of the turbo engine.

Is there any truth to this? Most parts discussion on this forum indicate the 23303-64010 (smaller filter) is the one for the 1HD-T and 1HD-FT engines.

Thanks.

anyone?

I know they both fit, but is there any difference between the two, performance-wise perhaps?

Folks in my club just had this debate regarding the 23303-56040. My Toyota parts guy has a couple of Coasters that he rents out. He broke out into a big grin when we rolled into the parts department one Saturday having this debate. He popped up the filter on the Coaster diagram and showed us. That ended the specially tuned filter debate. I like the fact that the 23303-56040 has the built in water separator and drain and is reputed to be very long lasting. That is why both the 1HD-T guys and I (1HZ) run it.

Any chance of some pictures of the filters (and associated assemblies) in question?

My 23303-64020 (also lists 64010) on the faux-lux has a drain and water separator built into it, is there an improved version out there that I should know about?

Here's the best picture I could find right now of mine (which is, I believe, the same as the 64010). It has been a LONG time since my engine was that clean...

Dan,
Here are pics of the HZ/HD-T/Coaster buss fuel filter that I referenced above. The silver one on the right is OEM from Toyota and costs like $24.00 ea. The gold one on the left is the after market version sold at the local aut parts store chain. In these fotos I am at the parts department in the dealership and we were doing a visual comparison. They look equal in size shape, weight and construction. The aftermarket one costs $7.00 each.

Your picture shows two of the same filter: one Toyota, one after-market.

My question was whether there is an impact on engine performance from using either of two filters available from Toyota: the 23303-56040, long and the 23303-64010, short.

Previous responses seem to indicate there is none. I just wanted to make sure.

Interestingly enough, both filters - 23303-64010 and 23303-56040 - are sold for the same price on 1stToyotaparts.com.

How many microns is the filter ? ..

Any idea if the elements are of differing construction and filtration efficiency?

How do they compare to the 23390-YZZAB which is also apparently suitable for 1HD-FT?

All the parts stores in Australia sell the same filter for all models. Never heard about one filter being better for turbo engines. Toyota diesel feed pumps draw as much as 4 times the fuel they need to keep the pump cool and send the excess back to the tank. The turbo engines use as much fuel as the non turbo types
