When I pull the fuel door release, the door doesn't open. There is a broken piece of plastic on the hinge where I assume there is supposed to be a spring that should pop the door. Could someone take a picture so I can see what is missing/broken on mine, and is that particular piece replaceable?

Thanks

Nak

Here's a pic of what mine looks like...

Thanks Mick, I can see what is broken. Guess I will add this to "the list" and get in touch with CDan to see if this part can be bought, or if I'm gonna have to source it through a wrecking yard.

Thanks again

Nak

That part is available. I replaced the same part on my wife's Lexus ES300.

LoneStar,

It looks like it just snaps on the fuel door hinge, no removal or anything? It looked like the PO may have had problems as the screws have rust on them, and the door was slightly bent from prying.

What a coincidence i also just replaced my wife '00 ES300 gas door.Yes those are the clip and pretty cheap to get it somewhere if i remember around $3.00.
And i told her, Do you know why these piece broken? Because when you close the fuel/ gas door you don't close it gently that's why  It's easy to replace the clip, you just need small flat screw driver to pop the old one.

Cdan has them and they don't cost much. Opening the fuel door by yourself without the spring requires some imagination:)

Well, I've found two ways. One is to jam a small stick (ie toothpick) in the door and then pull the latch. Another was to take the cover off in the cargo area, and while pulling the door with my fingernails, realease it from inside. Either works fairly well but not as easy as a functioning realease :D

When I got my Cruiser that same spring was broken. Its a cheap and easy fix although it was more difficult than I expected. I did have to remove the door to get the plastic clip snapped into place without breaking it.

I've been jamming a piece of dowel between the release handle and the floor mat for 2 years. 50 cent chunk of wood to save $3.00:doh:

Replacing that little bastid is a chore.....

It's cheap but it makes up for it in agrivation.......:flipoff2:

I prefer to remove the door and work on it on the bench as opposed to trying to clip that SOB in place whilst the door is attached to the vehicle.

Can't let a chance go by.:flipoff2:

Mine slipped right in without a problem. I suspect it will slip right out one of these days and I'll get to do it again.

the cigerette lighter works nicely to hold the release lever while you go around and open the door. :) lol

In case anyone is searching for fuel door info like I was.....

The part on the left is the retainer part number 7737720030 $7.61, and the door opening spring on the right is part number 7736022020 $3.19. Gary at toyotapartsbarn.com is a helpful guy.

Yeah, a "cigarette" lighter works perfectly to jamb under the release lever. I finally fixed the spring though.:smokin:

I need one of these also for my new to me cruiser. I was stuck out and needing gas solo the other day and came up with a good solution. Just stick your key in the top gap of the fuel door and let your ring hang down. Your key acts like a spring, voila! No need to force it, just set it in there and let the weight of it pop the door, doesn't take much.
