The one thing I WOULDN'T do is spend $ on getting a vac retard dizzy.

If you want a cheap solution, you will ultimately get a cheap solution.

I am going to say this knowing I am going to get some negative feedback......I set my 77 desmogged 2F (thole dizzy/carb) as per the WSM and it felt very underpowered. Only when I cranked the timing up did it seem to make a difference. I cant tell you what the timing is currently set at but it is pretty advanced. Good idle, good acceleration (for a 40), no pinging, etc.

Ok what is your timing set at. When I first checked the timing I know it was set pretty far advanced

It doesn't work that way because of the type of shaft the oil pump uses. Makes it walk really side to side. Plus the counter weights come on at different RPMS. Thus it is really unpredictable as to what it will do.
Can I get some info on a carb and dizzy from you. Prices etc.

I really dont know as the flywheel lacks marks. My flywheel looked like the BB and the TDC mark had been machined off. I marked what I thought was the bb based on TDC of the motor. I could see what I thought was the remnant of the BB. Seat of the pants adjustment. I made certain it wouldn't "ping" under load with 87 octane fuel. All I can say is that mine did not run well set on what I determined to be the BB. Yours very well may be different! I had to rely on the butt dyno rather than the numbers.

I will try that. I was driving it yesterday and noticed that when I am in first taking off from a stop or when I switch gears and the Rpms are low is when it lacks power bad but if I pull the choke it helps big time then when I get the rmps up push the choke in. Kinda tells me it's something in the carburetor

From his signature: New F & 2F carbs He also has his own section on the Vendor part of the forum.
I've been running one of his carbs for years now without issue.

Ok so update. I was trying different springs on the accelerator pump the linkage spring because the one on my carb was a bunch of little ones the previous owner piled up on there. Well I had one on there that was pretty stiff and it ran great in the driveway just not under load so I found one that was a little softer put it on then went through and adjusted the idle mixture screw with a vacuum gauge and a tach. It ran like 90% better still had a little hesitation but only lasted a few about a second. Well then my float started acting up and it started flooding real bad but the power was impressive when it was flooding. So after tearing it apart and adjusting the float to the 4.1 mm and the 1 mm spec put it back together and it was showing fuel right at the top of the sight glass. Tried it about 3 more times and the same so I put the original needle valve and seat that I kept after doing the rebuilt and still the same so I adjusted it higher not sure were exactly what I did was adjusted it to the 4.1 mm while pushing the float down so not sure the clearance when it sits static but now the fuel is exactly half way on the sight glass still lacks power but no more popping from the carb. Wonder if it could be the power piston not working correctly any way can't wait till taxes come in and get a new carb and dizzy from trollhole
