i saw the fjc at the houston auto show. the part of the front bumper that looks like brushed metal/ss is actually plastic. if you get one and plan on doing any wheeling, plan on getting some damage or fabbing up a new bumper before you go.

You talkin bout dis? :D Looks like the whole damn bumper is plastic.

yeah, that's it. it does seem to be all plastic, but those end caps just kinda stick out, ready to snag on anything and just shatter/rip off.

I really like the look of the ARB bumper on the blue cruiser Toyota shows in their SEMA pics.

The picture shows it's scratched up already. Ditto on the ARB.

Plastic, metal...did ANY Land Cruisers, ever, come stock with some bad-ass, offroad, armored-up bumper? Nah, they all need to be upgraded if your going to wheel 'em hard.

I'm sure ARB will be ready to ship around March/April as well...

yeah, no sh*t. I didn't say it needed to be a bad-ass, armored-up bumper. However, these flimsy, plastic wings are really just hanging out there on their own, waiting to get taken out. especially since this one's made to "take the con".

It did "take the con". Only got a couple scratches too. I'm impressed with it's capabilities right out of the box. ARB will cure all for long term use though. You gotta admit, right out of the box, wheeling through the Rubicon with no real damage is very impressive.

spent the last two days wheeling with the FJC in Gray Rock, and yep those bumpers popped off right away after rubbing on some rocks......... luckly they popped right back in  but if you do plan on wheeling the FJ those bumpers will be the first thing that has to go.

well, sorry about that. stressful day at work. don't worry, i'm not doubting the truck's quality or ability. i was just pointing out that i saw the thing at the auto show and that was something i noticed. the factory sliders looked pretty sweet, though, and seem mismatched with the barbie jeep plastic bumper.

Yeah, 10-4, and rereading, I look like a dick for assuming you were FJ bashing. My point, really, was aftermarket bumpers are the norm for any 4x4.

agreed.

Props to Toyota for allowing the aftermarket manufaturers in as soon as the prototype was completed to start measuring for cool new toys. I'm guessing that the aftermarket parts will be ready before the Cruisers are.
