Dan. thats the only thing pulling me to go ARB upfront first....i just need to think it all over. price wise, the arb is cheaper though...hmmmm

Look sliders are great and they do protect your rockers obviously. And there is no going back when your rockers get crunched. But yall are overlooking the ARB and how it can save your whole truck. The ARB has saved cruisers from being totaled. I would rather have crunched rockers than no cruiser at all. I can't tell you how many accidents I have seen with 80's where if they didn't have that ARB bumper they would be in really bad shape. I say get the bumper because it can save your truck. For example I have a buddy with ARB bumper who got in a fender bender and his whole frontend probably would have been messed up but there wasn't a scratch on the ARB bumper. P.S. I know sliders people say protect from side collision but bumping someone is a lot more likely. And most sliders are too close to the cruiser to stop much. Plus you aren't around rocks you said so go with the bumper. You won't regret it. But eventually just get both.

FSIMG and Cdan both recommend the bumper. Cdan, I bet you never thought you would be in the same league as Stucky! Great minds think alike! :flipoff2:

If your wheelin in areas that require sliders then do it. Otherwise I'ld go for the ARB first for obvious highway safety reasons.

Hmmm,

You may want to hold off on any purchases you might need to make untill I have had a chance to forget what you just said.....;)

Alright guys,

Tell me if you think im wrong here but its midnight. i just got home from work and my 20 minute drive down the lovley rural Va roads. My thinking has changed now as i almost just raped two huge deer. one deer i had to slam on the break as hard as possible and sent everything in the truck flying. For what its worth, im on my third stock bumper already(why i didnt replace the first time with an arb, parents....) due to a deer and fender bender. Considering i dont wheel a huge amount and what wheeling i do is kinda light i think i will lean towards an ARB now and sliders by next summer or this coming winter. Now lets just see if i can get my hands on an ARB locally within the next week.

Dont get me wrong though, its not that i dont value everyones opinions as it seems most said go with sliders but it is true most who did say sliders are west coast guys who probably see more rocks then me...there are pros and cons to each...nevertheless, both im sure are worth there weight in gold

Based on this story, you must forget about the bumper and sliders, and instead purchase a Milton Cargo Barrier. :D

I think sliders are valuable (they were one of my first purchases), but as someone said it all depends on how you use your truck. I run stuff like the Rubicon. Sliders are a necessity.

Based on your usage (95% on-road, no rocks, but lots of deer) I will disagree with the majority and say ARB 100%. You will NOT gain any on departure angle (in fact, the ARB may actually have worse angles than the stock bumper), but you will gain immeasurably in front-end protection. Having seen deer strikes and what they can do, I would say that the deer you encounter regularly will do far more $$$ damage to your truck than the rocks that will never come close to your door sills (since you don't do that kind of wheeling). Remember what's up there: headlamps (say $300 each), sheet metal, radiator (say $400), lots of plumbing, and the possibility of stranding you if struck. Bent door sills will not stop you from driving home. But of course, bent door sills will never be a problem for you until you start wheeling your truck more aggressively, so I think an ARB bumper gives you more value for your dollar in this case.

My $0.02,

Now that i see that deer are your number 1 concern and you don't do too much hard core wheelin', i think you are correct on going with the ARB.

Having read thru this thread and paid particular attention to your driving habits and needs, I'd recomment the ARB. Sounds like you would get much more use or 'protection' from the ARB than sliders.

Absolutely. Now that we have more info, go with the ARB first.

I've got stock bumper and stock running boards. If I ever get the opportunity to spend money on somehting other than Maintenance and fuel it would be front bumper without question. That's my personal preference based on safety perspective of weak fron tstoick bumper and of course based on wise inforamtion preovided by otehr members. When stuckey is right there's no reason not to agree with him. Well there are several reasons but I digress...

Having unintentionally nailed quite a few deer, and a few close run-ins with mountain lions, I'd go for the ARB. Around here, cattle and horses get out on the roads, and deer are all over the place. Just wheel it easy until you can get the sliders. If you plan on wheeling it hard right now, do the sliders.

I went for the ARB when I first bought the truck due to driving 140+ miles per day, mostly on unimproved roads, with lots of wildlife. Damaging the rockers was not a concern at the time.

Look at your driving habits and buy accordingly.

For you.. ARB or TJM Bumper is the way to go.. Just don't hit any Rock on the trail or you'll be kicking yourself all year long...

hmm, never tried that... and I'm from Alabama!

Seeing how I have only half of my OEM bumper remaining and at GSMTR I nestled a rock on my driver side rocker panel, I debate what I want first as well. Then I look at my bank account and realize I can't have either right now. But I now know the IMPORTANCE of sliders first. My bumper will come off when the ARB comes, my ripped rocker panel will not when the sliders come!
