I have a leaking cv boot and am desperately trying to fix the issue. I bot the cv boot "kit" that came with grease for inbound and outbound cv joints and i have followed a procedure manual in the sticky but i cant get the axle to slide out of the differential. The sticky says to use 2 pry bars which i have done but i don't want to damage anything.

My entire front right side is disassembled and i really could use some help so if there is something you think could help please respond.

Thanks!

Let me add that one post on the sticky states "use a bigger pry bar".

However i have put a lot of pressure on it this morning with 2 large pry bars already. I feel like there is a trick to this process that i've missed ??

x2 On the hammer and drift. I Tried pry bars and even steel wedges with a BFH between the axle and diff.. Nada.
Whacked the bottom of the flange with the drift at an outward angle and it popped right out.

I had one that was stuck and I think that "use a bigger pry bar" was to me. It really did work though. You need a bar that doesn't flex at all.

Also, try rotating the CV a little and giving it a few good whacks with a brass hammer.

That c-clip can be a pain. Hammer the hell out of it.

BFH-Whack it good and hard!

The c-clip could be in the worst possible orientation. Push the axle inward so it's not bound and then rotate it 180 degrees and try again.
I have also used the bar+hammer method to POP them out.

I got it!

Thanks for your replies.

I was able to replace bearings on both sides, all 4 shocks, took driver side axle out and replaced boots and filled with new yota grease, and replaced both front rotors and pads. Shew!

Thanks to this forum and the contributors who document tedious and otherwise breathtaking processes with photos.

Those cone washers popped out after i tapped around them and tapped each bolt head about 200 times.

The axle came free with a larger pry bar.

Glad thats over. Now i gotta replace both sway bars and i should be ready to roll for awhile.

I just realized that quite a bit of fluid drained when i pulled that driver side axle. Should i have refilled the differential?

Yes. Or at least check that the level is good.

For the cone washers in the future, use an impact gun with a piece of hose over the end. Someone (LC Phil?) came up with the tech and it's less than a minute per side. Search for cone washers and you should find it.

Will loose some lubricant when axle is removed. Insist it be filled to maximum level without over filling and noted. Really not asking for much. Just decent service.
