Looks like my recent purchase will require a rebuild as it started poping when in a hard right turn. :)

Where is the best place to find a step by step instruction manual. I have a Haynes manual, is there anything better?

The kit that Dan has is there anything else that I need to order before I start.

How long should this take, (First timer on axle, but have rebuilt an engine before.) Accountant by trade.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Looks like my x-mas $$ will go to Dan.

Welcome soda. First stop is the FAQ thread stuck at the top of the forum. Then read up. Your gonna need some tools, grease, diff oil, rags and the FSM.

But like everyone will say, read up. It is written....

FSM = Factory Service Manual

Where is the best place to get? Dan?

Thanks,
Russell

Lots and lots of rags :bounce:

Some people use rubber spatulas sp? to wipe out the inside of the knuckle & get the bulk of the grease out.

You should have it done in a long day...maybe a long day and part of the next....

I have a haynes and a factory manual for my FJ60, and the factory beats the haynes hands down.

Dan is the man to talk to on the manual.

Other than that it looks like you know how to use the search function, so you probably know what kind of grease to use where....Other than that, have fun & may the cruiser gods smile upon you :D

I'll be repacking my birfs the sunday after xmas. Doesnt look too difficult but things never go smoothly for me. I ordered the kit from Cdan plus 2 additional inner axle seals. I also got trunion bearings from Dan as well as new brake rotors and 100 series pads. Wheel bearings I'll pick up locally. Search here for "timken" to get part numbers if you want to replace the bearings.

Read up in the archives. Some good tips and a few others experiences. Search using terms like "birf repack".

Here is a good link that covers quite a bit...

With the axles that I have done the right side birf for whatever reason takes the brunt of the wear in the axle. On your truck I'd suspect that in order to quiet down the clicking a new Birf will need to installed. Clicking isn't enough to warrent replacement unless it's real bad.

Just thought I'd point this out as you might want to get in touch with C-Dan on availability and cost as once you've torn down the axle you might want a new birf just to avoid going in again.
