Frickin stuck PCV!!

Use vice grips on the part above the valve cover, and twist with a rolling motion back and forth. Put a hammer handle under the vice grips, so you can use it for leverage - pushing down on the vice grip handles will now lift up on the PCV valve with tremendous force. Done right, the grommet will come up with the PCV valve. If you have a friend, they can help the grommet come up by gently prizing it up while you're lifting. All of them I've done (3) have come up perfectly this way. I posted this years ago.

Replace the grommet when you get the PCV valve out... they deteriorate fairly quickly

Use vice-grips and a hammer. I actually used the mallet end of a rubber hammer for leverage. Still had put nearly all 215lbs of me on the vice-grips, but it came out. I just today wrote a thread about this job. I used some tape and a wire to make sure none of the grommet fell in. It saved me because the grommet fell into 6 pieces from me prying it out.

hmm m, I better wait then. I don't have another grommet. ALready am waiting for the new hoses to arrive, PCV and the breather were hard and shattered. Thanks for that advice!

How do you know your PCV valve it's stuck .?

I'm experienced low idle sometimes ( maybe one time per day and not really frecuent ) and that I've been read teach me about replace this and clean my IAC

It's really hard pull out the PCV .. ? someone with pics .. ?

He's talking about stuck trying to remove it. After you get it out it should rattle when you shake it. If not, then its stuck.

PS- My low idle seemed to subside after cleaning the TB, IAC, MAF and replacing PCV. Very cheap and only a few hours light work.

seems like someone one time suggested that if pieces fell in it was no big deal, they would be crushed and come out with the oil. i don't plan on this method though

yeah, I think I will try to avoid getting any peices in there. I had to abort cause I don't have another grommet and don't want my truck down when and if it comes apart.

And to answer Tapage, my truck is running fine, just doing maint. and did indeed mean that it was stuck in the grommet, not stuck and malfunctioning!

Spray the old grommet with PB Blaster a few times over a few days; it should soften it up a bit, then get the longest pair of vice grips or pair of pliers you can find, then either use a hammer handle as mentioned above, or do what I did; use the engine lift hook for the fulcrum point and lift twist lift twist lift twist, etc until it comes out. The old grommet will crumble so have a pair of long needle nose pliers ready to pull the pieces out that fall onto the little shelf under the grommet inside the valve cover. Of course, don't do this until you have a new grommet in hand.

Yep, I had the same problem. The bottom half of my grommet fell in after breaking off. Long tweezers were my answer, like surgical forceps. Definitely get a new grommet first, then play around with it all you want.

Warm up the engine to let the valve cover expand and the grommet soften.

Hey Rock, the warming up thing was key!! That made the most difference out of everyones suggestions. Thanks guys, once again!

Word. As soon as I read his suggestion I knew it was a good one.

Did the grommet break and fall in at all since it was warm and hopefully a little more flexible?

surgical forceps with care and a steady hand was the way to go for me.

Oh, and I also made a slit down one side of the grommet so that I could roll it inside of itself. No pieces down the hole but it was incredibly brittle and the top flange broke with the first few tries.
