Have had a warn 8000 for about a year now, although this problem started only a few months after the purchase. Pretty simple really, when you try and turn the free spool lever to the "free spool position" you cant. Only able to turn it about a 1/4 turn of the way.....

anyone encounter this problem?? anyone know how to fix this??

Thinking about sending it to WARN seeing that it is still under warranty, but would like to see if i can figure this out myself without having to go thorugh the trouble of sending it to warn....

Any input would be great!
Thanks

The end of the freespool lever (that's inside the winch) has a halfmoon end that slots into a halfmoon recess in the gears. When you turn to lock the lever, the halfmoon must slot into the recess in the gears. If it's only turning halfway, probably the drum needs to be rotated a little one way or another to cause the recess to line up with the halfmoon on the lever.

So your saying i need to take the winch off the mount and rotate the whole winch. And hopefully the "recess"? will reline itself?

Recess?

Thanks for the help!

You don't need to take the winch off the mount, just wind it in another inch or two. If you wind the hook all the way up to the fairlead, take the hook off and carefully bump it in through the fairlead until the lever will move.
