I'll be making a trip up there Sunday if anyone wants to go get some firewood. PM me if interested. Lots of down, and fresh fir and spruce. It's about 10 miles by the crow east of Cuba.

I'm down with that. Will see you Sunday.

Ali

OK, although they're 60 springs

I am interested in a small load if there is enough wood.

Thanks,
Vince

There is too much. Take a large load...

It's like this. The ecosystem typically burns every couple of decades - cleaning out the dead and down. Hopefully the fire will not crown, then it turns into a problem. It hasn't burned in several decades, so there is a lot of dead and down, and the living tress are at least twice as thick as they should be. We have about 20 acres of trees. Unfortunately it's only on 5 acres of land...

My father in law was wondering if a permit would be necessary or not. He heard one time that permits were needed even on private land.

Fill me in.

Permits? It's our frigging land. We give the permits....

I can appreciate his concern, but it's not Forest Service land...

No, but how is the Forest Service going to know if the wood was cut on private property or theirs?

Here is a response from an employee of the NM Forestry Division. Mow away.

Hi Jon,

The state does require a permit for large commercial cuts on private land. If he is selling fuel wood and cutting 75 acres or more in calendar year, then he should contact the Bernalillo District Office of the NM Forestry Division for a permit. If he is not cutting for a commercial purpose or cutting fewer than 75 acres to sell for fuel wood, then no permit is required.

Cheers,,, Bob

I'll sleep so much better knowing that...

That was his exact quote and his concern. Glad Jon took the time to clear it up.

Steve, My father in law will meet you guys at the north portal.

Graham

Gorman says Steve's wood is too hard to split...
