Your friend did a great job on these. I'm definitely glad we agreed to tighten up the tolerances.

How many ft-lbs are your guys putting on these when you install them?

Great job indeed. A 1" bore would have been very sloppy. I torqued mine (front using stock bolts) to 100 lbs.ft.

How are others handling the install of these brackets on an arb 03+ bumper? I tried the install this morning and quickly noticed that it was not going to be a simple bolt on answer. Some modification to the arb bumper mounting area seems necessary. The problem is that the hole to which the shackle is supposed to attach remains inside the arb mounting box, and thus you can not attach a shackle to it (I.e., the hole is not low enough to clear the mount.) I was about to drill some holes to the side of the bracket so that i could access the hole and attach the shackle, but I then became concerned about the clearance to the front side, as in would the shackle be able to rotate freely to at least parallel with the ground, it seemed that there was no way in which it could rotate beyond that because of the interference from the arb mount.

Any thoughts from others experiences?

Sorry that caught you off guard, but luckily the solution should be easy Based on earlier discussions in the thread you need to notch out the part of the bumper that interferes. Starting on p.14 post 277 where 2000UZJ asks about it (https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series...ecovery-bracket-group-buy-14.html#post6354634) and then after a bunch of confusion (mainly on my part :-) ) that led to more clarity you can see on p.15 (posts 282, 289, 290) that it's confirmed for 03+ you just need to notch out the part of the bumper that interferes with the shackle's hole - look carefully at the picture (https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/182158-frame-recovery-bracket-group-buy-15.html). Hopefully that clears it up for your bumper situation.

Thanks for the picture. What did you do the cut the notch out of the ARB?

Shipped

Shipped 'em out this morning (with the exception of two folks I need more info from). Looks like folks should get them by Wednesday or Thursday at latest.

I also updated your paypal invoices with the usps tracking/delivery confirmation number - you should have gotten an email notification.

cut-off wheel air tool.

Thanks Loud.

I took on the mini-project with just my little dremel and a mini cutting disk. It took about 15 min to complete the cut, and another 5 to sand down the rough edges. All in, a very quick and easy tweak.

Couple of pics of end result (paint is till wet...)

I'm now debating on whether or not to install the 2nd recovery bracket at all. I have moved the factory recovery hook that was previously in the rear to the drivers side, and I have this frame recovery bracket on the other. I like the idea of having access to the hook for a very quick and easy to access recovery point, and then a more substantial bracket for serious work--best of both worlds.

What kind of cutting wheel did you use? I don't think my current dremel is up to the task. Which one do you have?

I used a 300-series Dremel:

300-2/28 300 Series Variable-Speed Tool Kit / Model: 300-2/28

with the "Standard" cutting disk that came with the Dremel: looked very much like this (but didn't have any numbers on it, so not sure of the id number):

426 1-1/4" Fiberglass Reinforced Cut-off Wheels, 5 Pack / Model: 426

Same setup as you, I wasn't sure it would have the "oomph" to get the job done. I'll get around to it tomorrow so I can just bolt up my FRB's when they come in.

Did you do both sides of the bracket or just one side?

you only need to do ONE not done side.

Yes. What loud said.

I only cut the side seen on the photograph (i.e., the "outboard" side), and only on the passenger side of the vehicle (will need to modify drivers side mount as well, if I install the second bracket there...)

Got one of mine on today. Cutting the ARB with a dremel 200 and some of those cutting wheels was rather.... Time consuming. Not to mention one of my bolts WOULD NOT come out. I had to go to Lowes and get a pipe to slide over the wrench and push with both hands and lean into it. After 2 hours I finally get it painted, mounted, and trimmed. I hit the bolts with some WD-40 and sprayed inside the frame where they thread. Took a old tooth brush and scrubbed inside and they threaded in by hand. Then I could not find my D-shackle...

they are super nice, incredible quality, and fit right up with no problem.

Thanks again Art. ( You have a PM)

P.S: thank you for the paper, I have something new to read tomorrow morning  (just kidding)
