Can some one please help me confirm what size bolts I need? It looks like Calamaridog was shipping these out on his run:

But there are also post of people using 110mm & 120mm bolt lengths. There isnt a definitive post that says if you are running "x" bumper you need "x" length.

I have a 2000LC with an arb 03+ combo bar. I will be mounting two of these in the front only. I have a BOIR rear bumper being built right now. So need for them in the rear.

Thanks guys!

Can some one that has these please answer? I need to send payment and want to mae sure I am ordering the right length bolts.

Thanks!

I can tell you that on my 1998 LX470 with a standard OEM hook that the 80mm bolts are used and are what I would consider the minimum length required to secure the hook. You can see on my pictures posted earlier how much of the thread is used. It is about 12 mm of thread, starting 4 mm from the end of the bolt, with no washers used.

The standard OEM hook is about 28 to 30 mm deep where the bolts go through. The new design is ~41 mm, so you need at least 10 to 12 mm longer bolts to mount this FRB on my truck. I guess to be safe, and taking into account washers, 100 mm bolts.

I haven't checked if it is possible to have bolts that a too long, where they would hit something and can not be fully tighten.

I can't anser for use with an 03+ though.

Update: first batch is in

Just got back from picking up the first batch of 15.

I do have the 80mm bolts for those that wanted them, but still waiting on the washers (should be in tomorrow).

Still need to get the packages together and shipped out hopefully in the next couple days. I'll keep everyone posted.

I should have the final batch in 2-3 weeks if everything goes as planned.

Just to be clear - the standard/stock OEM front hook is ~28.5mm. However, the standard OEM hook also has a tow bracket sandwhiched b/w it and the frame - that tow bracket is ~7mm thick. That brings the stock front hook setup to ~35.5mm vs. the 41mm of the brackets so there is really only ~5.5mm difference b/w the stock front hook and FRBs.

(The reason I distinguish b/w front and rear hook setup is b/c the rear stock tow hook is very different than the front one - it is only ~23.5mm thick and in the rear tow hook, 60mm bolts are used.)

Also just fyi the new bolts I ordered have a longer shank and ~3 fewer threads. In other words the new bolts have ~45mm shank and ~35mm threads whereas the stock 80mm bolts had about even half and half (40 shank and 40 thread). Without washers the shank clears the FRBs, with washer it might just barely clear as well (don't have washers yet to see).

Art, is it absolutely necessary to replace the bolts? Or is that just an option? I dont want any surprises when I install mine lol

Whether or not you need new bolts depends on your scenario. In short there are 4 reasons (I can think of) to get new bolts:
1) you are getting more than 1 FRB and you do not have enough 80mm bolts from your stock setup (stock would only have 1 set of 80mm bolts, rest are less than 80mm and can't be used with FRB). If you are just replacing your front tow hook with the FRB then you should be able to reuse the 80mm bolts you already have.
2) even if you are just replacing the front tow hook with the FRB, you might want certainty that the bolts you're using are class 10.9 (can't get definitive answer on what class the stock toyota bolts are - their marking doesn't appear match known standard markings).
3) if you are putting the FRB on an aftermarket bumper, you may need bolts that are longer than 80mm
4) your existing 80mm bolts may be rusted/in bad shape

The front tow hook is the only one that has stock 80mm bolts - every other corner of the truck has shorter bolts (believe it's 60mm for rear tow hook and 40mm for the other two corners). So, if you are putting the FRB on any of the other 3 corners you would need to replace the bolts with proper length (stock bumpers would be 80mm). If you are putting the FRB on an aftermarket bumper you need to determine what length is appropriate - I can't answer that one for you (although the answer may be buried in previous posts and someone else on the board may be able to answer).

Also, not sure what you mean by surprises with the bolts. If you are referring to the differences I pointed out in how much thread the new bolts have compared to the old bolts the new bolts are better if anything - since these bolts are in shear we would want the shank to clear the FRB if possible. Regardless there should be no surprises - if you need 80mm the new bolts are 80mm and the right thread etc. I have already put mine on with the new 80mm bolts - no surprises. They are 22mm head instead of stock bolts that have 19mm head but this is not an issue - would think that's better if anything but certainly can't see how it's bad.

Hope this helps.

Sorry - what I wrote might have been confusing. The FRBs on stock bumpers (front or rear) will require 80mm length. In stock form, the front tow hook uses 80mm so you could reuse those bolts if you want. In stock form the other 3 corners use shorter bolt lengths - so if you're putting FRBs on those corners you would need to get 80mm bolts.

If you are replacing the front tow hook with the FRB you could reuse your bolt. If you are keeping your front tow hook and putting the FRB on the other side of the front, you will need 80mm bolts.

You can PM me if you want the 80mm bolts.

Got an email, thanks a lot Art, they look great!
Is anyone just spray painting theirs, or is everyone going for the powder coat?

Fwiw, I rattlecan'd mine for now (rustoleum primer + rustoleum matt black). Figure I can always get it powder coated down the line if needed. Anyone have an idea how much it would cost to powder coat?

I updated each of your paypal invoices with the Delivery Confirmation tracking number - don't know if it notified you via email, but you should be able to see the expected delivery date using the tracking number here: USPS - Track & Confirm - Put our delivery information to work for you

Got the shipping notice, Art. It should arrive by the end of the week. Thanks!

I'll probably end up doing the same. I'm looking into powdercoating but I can't seem to get anyone around here to e-mail me or call me back. Kinda frustrating. I'll let you know if I come up with any estimates. I can't imagine it would cost all that much for such a small object...

USPS delivered my FRBs today.

Thanks again Art

Show up in uniform, that's sure to get their attention :D

Got mine today too. Thanks! Now looking forward to prepping them (painting), and mounting this weekend.

Your friend did a great job on these. I'm definitely glad we agreed to tighten up the tolerances.

How many ft-lbs are your guys putting on these when you install them?
