I once rescued a bone stock 100 series that was resting on his diffs in soft sand in the desert. Poor guys were digging for hours and had no water with them but that is another story. All tires spinning freely without any traction. I hooked my winch to his stock recovery hook. He even had the bumper spoiler so I had to fish the winch line between the spoiler and bumper. I could not position my 100 in front of his because of the situation of his vehicle and terrain. My vehicle was at a 40 degree angle to his which I think puts more strain on the hook. I told him that this might damage his 100 and he agreed to go on. fortunately, the hook did stand up for the strain, nothing happened to his bumper/spoiler and the recovery went quite smoothly. So the stock hook may actually work well.

Even after that incident I am still not a big fan of the stock recovery hook. it doesn't look like it would stand to repeated use and abuse. that is why I want it replaced with something beefier.

The aussie boys say the stock hook on the hundies break all the time. I read that on here somewhere.

I'm interested in a pair with the recommended mounting hardware also.

What are the implications of using the plate steel instead of the aluminum? Stronger and heavier?

Are there photos of the new design? Or is it going to be exactly like spressomon's?

Thanks for organizing!

FYI, class 8.8 metric is a tad better than Grade 5 SAE, but is not the same thing as Grade 8 SAE. In metric classes, you're actually looking for class 10.9 to get the equivalent strength as Grade 8 SAE.

edit: For bolts smaller than 1" in diameter, then class 8.8 and Grade 5 are the same. Also, I should say that all the mounting hardware that came with my ARB bullbar was metric 8.8, but I replaced it all with 10.9. I also used all 10.9 for mounting the winch and recovery hooks.

The big M14 OEM Toyota bolts are I believe class 10.9 (well, I think they mark the bolts as 11).

Thanks, I haven't looked at that in a while. I see MMC has class 10.9 in 2mm pitch, cheaper than 8.8. 2mm pitch might be what you need, dunno.

Calmari,

I'm in for a pair plus bolts. Will PM about shipping etc.

Thanks for setting this up.

So I'll PM everyone with the final details hopefully on the 30th or 31st.

Sorry, this is the pic in case you haven't looked at the other thread. It should fit the frame of any UZJ100 vehicles. It may interfere with a stock bumper, i.e. damage the plastic if you strap off it.

Wow, a lot more demand the second time around. That's a sign of the growing pool of 100 series enthusiasts. I'd just like to send a thanks out to Spresso for coming up with the design and Calamari for organizing and producing the 2nd batch.

Yep...we got community here ;). Along with your comment about the growing pool of hundy owners it is also refreshing to see a more serious approach to good recovery practices...hopefully they all have seen Bill Burke's How to Get Unstuck for starters to complete the circle so to speak.

yes they break!!

how do we always break 'em? i'ts not something we set out to achieve!! It's just that the non-mall crawlers do actually get off the "beaten tack"...ie off road.

I broke the front r/h side hook by tryng to get over a fallen tree.

this being the case, would i be out of line asking for the shop dwgs?

I thought I should mention these will work in the rear also if you don't have a hitch receiver to pull from and don't trust the factory recovery points.

I didn't know the 100 came with any FACTORY RECOVERY POINTS.

In Australia it did come with transport tie-down loops, as well as a tow hook, if you could call it that, but I would not use it for anything myself.
