Fox Shocks

Something will break, either my back or the truck. It just seems to break my wallet for some reason.

I must say, Fox was very helpful today. They were both understanding and eager to fix the valving. They did say the original valving for the 2.0 IFP's was designed around a factory 100, not fully loaded. That should clear up the earlier production shock "bouncing" issue.

I was quoted $25 plus shipping per shock to revalve the 2.0's. While likely a "fair" deal, they never worked right from the get-go on a nearly stock truck. I'm already into these $460. Does the valve upgrade make these into $600+ shocks?

I'll let you know Rob when I get my junk back together next week. Sierra Expeditions got me a pretty fair deal on the 2.0 with remotes. I think I paid around 220 per. Standard Fox policy is the first re-valve is free. How did they arrive at the 25$ figure I wonder?

Since, assuming you work on your own junk, you're going to need a nitrogen tank and gauge set-up, shock oil, o-ring/rebuild kits and a couple basic hand tools to PM your shocks every year/other year anyway why not just buy valve shims and do the tune yourselves? I recently bought oil and parts from Poly-Performance and Andy gave me good solid tune advice...

Just throwing it out there for those that don't want to wait for UPS/FedEx and shock companies to revalve and have basic mechanic skills and interest...

$25 is posted on their website for revalve. Probably in the sense of periodic maintenance. The -009 complete part number is 985-24-009. It is a longer travel shock- 10", I believe...

Here is the email from Joe at Fox

"The upgraded valve code is pretty good for stock vehicles. We know what to do for heavy vehicles (less free bleed and heavier rebound). We will not be making a new part number shock for heavy vehicles. Special need heavy vehicles can send them in for re-vavle prior to install for which we charge $25 per shock and takes about a week to schedule.

Now there are surely still some shocks floating around with the old valve code:

Any 985-24-066 front with 447983 engraved have the old code

Any 985-24-067 rear with 459534 and 447979 have the old code"

So is what Joe saying is you buy shocks for a heavy truck that are not ready for it just to send back to them to get fixed properly and waste your one free ($25) revalve b/c they will not make correctly from factory and use a new part number?

From the sound of his email that is correct.

Looking for an update. I am calling Fox tomorrow. I like their stuff, sounds like they stood behind their products.

I am on the bubble about 2.0s or 2.5s with res. Prefer the 2.5s if I can afford the cost difference, seems like about 400.00 more total for res.

I got a buddy that says 2.0s are fine but he lives in Texas and wheels his Ducati more than his 100..:)

Does fox make 2.5's with Res for the front for our 100 series rig?

I don't think so, I don't think they make 2.5s for the rear either, I thought some folks were using the 2.5s specd for a 200 series for the rear of the 100.

ICon makes 2.5s but 2K or 2600.00 with adjustable valve, really nice also but out of my price range for this project..
