It looks like FOX recommends a 1.5" max lift for their new 100 shocks. Has anyone tried them with a 2.5" lift, say 860's in the rear?

I just picked up a 1998 bone stock grocery getter and I'm starting to build it.

I ordered a set today. Because of the lift the shocks will have to be built special order. Still waiting on the final price but initial estimate is 240$, 2.0 with reservoir.

it will be trial and error. most shocks can function fine at slightly over their rated range, and the rated range may be based on liability concerns from encouraging/condoning lifted trucks not the capability of the shock. you will lose articulation in the rocks but you will not lose much normal lifted driving height since the shocks will not compress the coils or t-bars.

for example, stock bilsteins work fine on a lightly lifted 80 even though they have less travel than a stock factory shock. at one time bilstein even rated them for up to 50mm of lift. standard ome nitro shocks work fine on j springs for an 80 even though j springs exceed the lift rating of those shocks.

So it sounds like you have to go custom Fox's with a 2.5" lift.

not necessarily. it is likely the foxes will be fine. however, somebody needs to be the guinea pig and test this as the settings on every shock are different.

if your priority is daily driver/expedition use not rock crawling you may actually prefer a shorter shock because it will give you the ground clearance benefit of the lift and also tend to handle better than a longer shock in all conditions except in the rocks.

Got my hands on a set of pre-production shaft guards for my Fox shocks. Kind of like shin guards for the exposed shaft. Hi impact plastic, 11 inches long. Looks like they'll work on the fronts as well.

I really like those guards. I'm not a fan of the shock boots, they trap a LOT of garbage in them. I ran them for one trip and they packed themselves full of junk.

I run the ProFender 2.5" Remote Res on the front of my truck, I've had them for several months. I have no complaints and I actually like them better than every other shock I have ran on my 100 (OEM, Bilstien, OME L's, Fox's). They are a fabulous shock for the price. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another set. I don't think the Fox's belong on a built 100, not without proper valving and indepth tuning. I think they would be fabulous for a stock Land Cruiser though.

Here is my half-assed review on the Fox's:

My take on Fox 2.0's

I have not removed them, mainly due to finances, time, and other things.

I agree with 2000uzj. I have profenders on the Rear of my built 100 and i love them, they are fairly priced for remote Res shocks. They are for trucks with 2.5" of lift. i have put about 7k hard miles on mine... not as hard as 2000uzj but needless to say hard miles. they have yet to let me down, I recommend the profenders for a less spendy solution to King shocks

Rb4638 Which version fox shocks are those? I know they were working a a res version, but thought those were going to be out next year.
The shocks in the pic on the work bench are from a Jeep. Just used to show detail of the guards. I have non res 2.0 shocks on mine. You can be sure that when Fox comes out with the 2.5 with res and compression dampening knob I will be getting a set.

Here's a few pics of the guards mounted on the front shocks. Seems like they'll provide protection without the drawbacks of a rubber boot zip tied around the shock body. These should be available from Fox by January.

Bumping an old thread, did you have to get the profenders revalved or are they already valved for the hundy?
