Hi all!

New to the cruiser game. Previously wheeled in a couple Raptors and a few wranglers. Looking to start building our new MGM HE.

Let’s get straight to the point, I’m stuck on the suspension. I can’t find much real world experience reviews on the Fox 2.5 DSC. I have read quite a bit on the BP-51 and although the get pretty good reviews, they still seem like a relative “unknown” to me, and I’m concerned with their lack of local support. I’ve had great experiences in the past with Fox. I’ve ruled out King due to my Fox bias. I understand the fundamentals of shocks and the differences between features of these two shocks. My goal is to tighten up the ride without making it harsh at all, stable but very compliant.

So if it is down the Fox 2.5 DSC or BP-51, what would you go with and why? Would love to hear some first hand experiences on the Fox.

Thanks!

I ordered a set of fox 2.5 dsc (front and rear) the other day from accutune. Dont have them yet but thats the way I went.

What type of wheeling do you anticipate?

People generally love their BP-51s but 4.9 square inches of piston area of any 2.5 is pretty hard to match by 3.1 square inches in the 2" OMEs. You probably know this is more of an issue with use in desert/higher speed environments.. I got my kings not anticipating any of this use, and still ended up doing it. I'm very happy with my choice of 2.5s

Also potentially a factor.. I assume Fox will have many more spring rate/length options than are available with the OMEs.

I have zero experience with Fox but would love to see some people provide their feedback.

I’ve been looking at the same two choices. Problem is finding a shop with lots of experience with the 200 to do the valuing. I have Fox 2.0 factory series on my Bronco and the guy that set them up had lots of early Bronco experience and does the shocks on the Bronco my friend races in Baja. I need to find a shop that knows the setup for Fox for various uses on a 200, like Filthy Motorsports is for King shocks and the 200.

let us know who you use please!

edit

i see you said BP51, I read Bilstein.

I don't get why people would spend big bucks on a "should work for your 200" when there are proven "we know it works with your 200" solutions, where vendors and builders have extensive experience. For me, the high cost of suspension pushes me toward known solutions. Unless maybe it is a smoking deal and that justifies the experiment.

Well if people never took initiative to experiment beyond the accepted norm, then stock would be all we would have.

November-early december.
WOW!!!! They have certainly caught up if they are turning custom in such a short time frame.

Last December when I ordered suspension Accutune was quoting something like 40+ weeks. I was super interested in running the Fox 2.5 DSC, but wasn't willing to wait that long. I ordered BP-51s and had them a month later.

The dual compression adjustment of the Fox is certainly interesting. However, I am happy with the BP-51s and at this point don't see myself swapping....for now.

I have purchased FOX and KING coilovers and shocks from Accutune for rigs other than the LC. My experience with them has been good/great. I give them the weight of front and rear of vehicle and my intended use and they setup the shocks accordingly.

Also, Total Chaos has built a LC with KING 3.0 shocks, and may be able to lend some knowledge on valving.

Lastly, on MUD there are a few guys running the high-end Dobinson adjustable shocks/coilovers and I have read good things. There is a USA vendor that is active on here that will setup the shocks per your specs.

I really like the idea of externally adjustable compression and rebound (I believe OME and Dobinson have this), I do not understand why FOX and KING have not developed adjustable rebound on their shocks yet. They only have adjustable compression.

Hope that helps a bit.

From my understanding, Accutune's delays are usually due to the shock manufacturers' backorders and lead time, so if the shocks are in stock at Accutune, the turn around to ship is pretty quick. That was the case when I ordered KING's for a different truck last year, Accutune had to wait for KING to send them the shocks to them first.

Yesterday, Accutune told me January 2022 for Fix 2.5 DSC. Today they told me April. Not sure what’s up with that.

I found a front set and bought them yesterday through shock surplus, they will arrive Thursday. I also have a full BP-51 kit due to deliver next week. Going to return whichever I decide not to keep.

The Fox will be “off the shelf” with no custom tune. I’m all stock. Any thoughts on if the ride is going to be compliant without custom tuning? I really dislike overly harsh and rigid - I’m coming from a raptor. I could ship them out to Accutune but that starts to get expensive pretty quickly. I’m in Knoxville TN and cannot find anyone that I feel could do custom valving for me locally. Or I could play it safe (and cheaper) and return the Fox and roll with the BPs. But I feel like Fox should be a step up from OME.

First world problems. Would appreciate anyone’s feedback, especially if you have any experience with the Fox.

You running Kings Charlie?

I dont think you would want the fox off the shelf. I would wait for them of you must have fox, or see what accutune would charge to tune the ones you found elsewhere. The bp51 stuff is not junk and will likely serve you well. Probably much better than untuned foxs.

Hi, welcome to the exciting world of land cruisers. We do a lot of cruiser builds and anymore the 200 is probably the most build cruiser that comes in our shop. We do dobinsons mra on all our builds anymore we have ran ome in past will great luck but feel we get more adjustability to really get the suspension tuned in with dobinsons low and high speed compression adjustment and rebound adjustment. Feel free to give me a call at the shop 4178550647 and we can discuss your needs.
Thanks Jason Harris

Another thing to consider is rebuilding the shock. Fox has a large dealer network and many shops across the US that can rebuild them for you. That's not the case with ARB. It's been six years since they released the BP-51 which they claim is rebuildable and yet you still can't find a place to rebuild them. I've seen lots of guys go from the BP-51 to a race shock. Not vice-versa.

Talk with Jason Copper, he installed a lot of Fox. He has a local shop at Callahan dr. (Rock your 4x4) You can find him online or I could send you his phone number DM
