Then after a quick extraction, we ended up clearing trail for the rest of the day until we ran out of day, so we headed in with some bush wacking to get to our next spot by the second river crossing (furthest we got last time without heading up the creek to the second falls). Posting a picture of our legal fire for you southern guys;) Anyway here things went to s*** in the morning when adam couldn't start this bronco either, then we watched as the coil went up in smoke. we tried some stuff, but couldn't do anything, so we hooked up the wagon, and I ended up pulling the little bronco 15 km out of the trail and then another 30 down the gravel road to the highway. But we still managed to try a quick stab at the saddle, and wow, what a climb into the alpine, quaders don't even try the steep sections, as we saw their tracks both below and above, but they would probably endo on some of the eroded rock step ups. Anyway was super impressed with how the wagon climbed both the loose rocks and rock face steps. Adam says he thinks he'll get a front locker before trying this trail. but we made the top and although we didn't actually go to the saddle, we got to the part where quaders come in from the other side (1st saddle) so we know we can get to the next saddle (the one above tree line, but we were gettting short on time).

More top of trail pics. We ran into quaders back in the valley and they were supprised to see trucks in there, and asked us how we got in;) They said a bunch of quaders cut a path in to the lake last weekend, and that was where they are heading, and when we ran into them again at our last camp site after we gave them burgers and beer, they said they made the lake, but tail is really grown in, so at least it's promising that we will probably be able to make both the trails in this valley. The guy that new the area well was really amazed we made it up the trail to the top of the saddle.

Then we started to head back down. the pictures don't do it justice, that trail is steeeep. I think adam needs a few tips from you martin on how to take pics to represent the terrain better.

note in the 1st pic, just to the left of the dead orange tree in the valley below you can see the river where we camped at the night before, then the lake in the distance is not the lake we are trying to get to, but further up that vally (more left) is the bigger lake the bottom trail ends at. Last pic, you need to tilt the head, because adam tried to make it look steeper, but he tilted the camra the wrong way i think:hillbilly:

more steep loose rock trail. note the last pic is the rock ledge section that has quad tracks at the top, then further below on the trail another steep section keeps the quadders from going up. Saying this though there probably are quadders that will attempt this though, but definatly need some skill and no fear on a quad. was pretty sketchy in my long wheel base truck, I don't know if I would try in my 42 with no front locker. Coming down it didn't seem as bad a climbing it though.

Then we got down into the valley an did a little clearing, so next time we head in, we won't hate the endless ripping from the dead trees (we have a few km cleared, probably only another 1.5 to go, but there is a lot of willow and fresh stuff we haven't touched yet, but that stuff dosn't hurt the trucks as much as the dead burnt stuff. Adam got a new saw, so clearing went a lot faster than last time. Oh and a few fossils for you Curtis!

final few over our bridge. was a little sketchy towing the bronco over, cause the whole time I kept pulling, every now and then it would pull my rear of the truck over, but we crawled slowly and things went pretty smoothly. Next year we may try going in may long, but hopefully all the snow is gone by then cause this section would be realy sketchy with some snow on it! The rest of the valley would be real fun with some snow though;)

Thanks Jeff, If I could I would spend a week or two in there, place is nice. It's got the coastal mountainous beauty that I miss from down south, but the northern peacefullness (no yahoos) that I have grown used to.

I got lazy pulling into the first big river crossing, cause it's tough turning a locked front sometimes, so then I ended up floping on my drivers door, just a little dent though.:hillbilly:

Hola!

Great write up Deny, love to join you guys up there one year

Yeah Phil, me and Adam are scouting the heck out of this area, already know of a 20km trail in the Kinueso Falls area (to be in the next issue of TT I think) then there's 30 km of onion lake, which we haven't actually done, but know of trucks making the trek, the 30km of lookout trail (partially graded due to mining exploration now), and now this lake and saddle trails which could add another 30-40 km of trail. Now if we could push the lake trail across the rockies into the PG side, then we probably got a loop from tumbler which could span many KM of off road travel, minor back tracking (ie onion lake), and completed in one large trip. All the trails are within 30km of each other on gravel roads. would make for a good week or two of really awsome wheeling and scenery. One day ;) probably years from now if we can make it happen.
Cheers,
Deny

This is the same place on the way back that we got lazy pulling adam out, we tried to make it in one pass without pushing him back and we ended up popping the tire off the bead. a quick jack up, tire off, rachet strap, ether, and the air compressor and we were shortly back on the road.

Started doing a little on my truck yesturday and noticed I still had my trail fix on there, so took a few pics. The nut on my shackle fell off somewhere on the way in, noticed it when adam couldn't start, so used some bailing wire and it held up for the 15km bush wack out on the trail and another 30km gravel travel pulling the little bronco, then the few hours home driving on the highway. I had on my list from May long to put a couple of nuts in my tool box, but forgot about it. Also another pick of my flop (just to get an even 3 pictures posted with this reply), will get a couple more pics from adam, but just jonesing to go back in there next year (might be able to swing a fall trip if I catch up at work.

Yeah I know, I need longer bolts, the ny part wouldn't touch thread. My 42 has double nuts on it, but I looked long and hard for those 18mm bolts up here, couln't find nothing but these at Gregs. but then they didn't have the nuts, had to get them at northern metalic. will get longer bolts if I don't forget when I go home for christmas.:hillbilly:

fxxx 18mm, drill them out to 3/4 and be done with it. easy to find and cheaper:cheers:
