Hello Mudmates,
I had ben in a quandary between KO3's and Defenders for a few weeks for the right tire for my new 2011LX570. I don't do much off-roading anymore so the KO3's were more than i need but have a great look. The Defenders are a nice all around tire but the looks just don't fit the look i am going for. I was way fortunate to find a set of Rock Warriors 2 days after i got my 570 (1-26-24) and only had to travel a 100 miles to get them. I did great at $900 with old KO's that were done. I really went back and forth agonizing more than i want to admit looking for the right choice. I found it! BFG Trail Terrain TA's! 285/70/17 was my tire choice no matter what i was going with. P metric rated and 10 lbs less that KO3's (46lb) RWL like what's avail on KO3's and look awesome. They won this winter weather tire test against 6 other at's and even beat the Defenders. Only loosing to Michelin dedicated snow tires (the benchmark for this test) Snow traction was my primary tire requirement along with a smooth hwy ride. I got both!

This is the exact compromise that i was looking for and couldn't be happier.

The third pic is in neutral height with sensor mods.

Those rock warriors look new!

Good looking truck. I will change out the factory 20s to 18s or 17s . I like the direction you went and may follow. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks man, I am soo happy with the 2011 LX570 i found after a month of serious hunting. 105k miles in great condition with lots of service records. No major issues and bought from a private party for 25K. Had to travel to Seattle (240 miles) but not the first vehicle that i have bought from that region and have always done well.....

How do they do in rain with water pooling on the road (hydroplaning conditions)? I don't see a way for water to be ejected from those treads.

Drove in heavy rain yesterday. Hit standing water at 65 and no issues. Got a couple of inches of snow this morning so a little testing is in order.....

Update, Snow traction is excellent.....

I see you went laces out

I have run these same shoes in 275/65R18. Still happy with them on highway, rain, gravel, and CO off-road mountain pass (non technical) type wheeling. They are a bit slick on wet rocks and in slimy mud, naturally. Going on about 25k miles. They are a little tricky to balance perfectly.

Forgot to mention. Trail Terrain is 46lbs, RW is 24lbs for a combined weight of 70LBS!!! Stock wheel and 275/55/20 is 76lbs. The carcass is actually a 1/2 inch wider on each side compared to KO2's on RW's. It is a direct comparison to each tire as my son's LX470 has KO2's/RW's on it.

A MPG update. On the drive home with the 20 in stock wheels and Dueler tires (76lbs and 8 years old) i got 18.2 mpg on hwy (72-75MPH) with the new tires and RW's i got 19.4 mpg at the same speeds. Very happy with this setup......

I will second TLC Dans review. I also could not be happier with my setup. After almost 4 months with the Trail Terrains (275/65/18) and TRD PRO wheels, i have been completely satisfied. They have the look of the K02s I wanted and almost the perfect ride quality of the defenders.

I am about to do my seasonal snow tire swap from Nokia's to my KO2s. I noticed the KO2s are a bit torn up on the inside. And given that I don't expect to do any rock crawling in the future - just forest trails - I am considering a lighter tire. I don't need E-rated. But I do two a 6000# travel trailer with 750# of tongue weight. I have 2'" lift. I'm wondering about an LT (vs E) tire. But this might work if is has sufficient load rating. I also expect that the LC200 has a tow rating of 8000 with a tongue weight of 850. And I would assume that is with the stock tires. Does anyone remember the weight rating of the stock tires and how would these Trail Terrains compare?

Good to hear of another solid tire option.

Sizes available seem to top out at OEM sized fitments. So for those looking for upsized or inch sized tires, this isn't your tire.

2512# IIRC

C vs E load is primarily going to be if you need to inflate >50psi to handle the weight. Based on GVWR you shouldn’t ever need more than C load. If you run over the rear GAWR of 4300# total then you possibly might depending on tire size

Thanks, Geoff. I never had my KO2s higher than about 46 PSI. Hope you all are doing well. Still towing that Lance 2185? We switched to a Lance 1995 4 years ago and the tongue weight is nearly 200 lbs lighter than what I had with my Lance 2285. So we should be good with C Load (or what they show as XL). 90% of my driving now is road trips (pavement) and I'm hoping the change in tire will improve MPG and highway comfort. Looking at Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 in a 275/65R18. I will lose a half inch of height and some width compared to the 285/65 KO2s. But they will still be taller than stock and wide enough for my needs. And they will be considerably lighter. (Looks are not something I care about so not a factor for me.)

The Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 is available in 285/65R18 XL 116T now.

Yep I still pull the 2185. I'll likely keep it until all my kids are in college, though I suppose there's a chance once I'm down to one in a couple years I might consider going smaller until the 3rd is out.
