cause insurance companies as a whole refuse to insure them. PERIOD. no excuses, all you get is a letter stating "said insurance company will not be insuring your RHD after your renewal date." no apology, nothing.

the only company that i know of that will insure is the same one that insures drunks, punk ass kids and those that never should have gotten a license in the first place.
i have a completely clean driving record for the last 15 years, no accidents, no speeding tickets, nothing. when i mentioned this they said "it isn't you, it is the RHD that is the issue" WTF?

Alberta is having issues as well, i think Manitoba is as well, Yukon won't even let you register one. Quebec has the ban on them. i think PEI is supposed to be heading that way. rumor has it that Nova Scotia is dead set against them.

government insurance is gathering statistics and, from what i have gathered, is planning to cancel insurance for RHD vehicles as well.

the idea they won't even let you convert to LHD is just protectism for the big 4

I think every province has legislation prohibiting refusal of (basic) insurance without grounds. Alberta does and so does Ontario.

"Grounds to terminate

238. (1) An insurer shall not decline to issue, terminate or refuse to renew a contract or refuse to provide or continue a coverage or endorsement, except on a ground filed with the Superintendent under this section. 1993, c. 10, s. 19; 1997, c. 28, s. 111."

Wayne sounds to me like those "rapture ready" people from last weekend. I think the threat is mostly imagined and I'm prepared to wait and see but I have that luxury. It doesn't in any way affect my livelihood.

Bruce,
care to get me the number to call to complain?
i did a search and there is nobody in charge that one can complain to, i even asked the insurance company i deal with and he laughed.
that rule might look good in black and white but in reality it isn't worth the cyberspace is consumes.

Your insurance companies ( Canadian ) must be a little sharper than their U.S. counterparts. I have insured six RHD vehicles and with the exception of one fully restored Land Rover they never even ask to see the vehicle. The entire transaction was simply done over the phone.
"Send them money and they send you an insurance card." ("money" being the key word in the previous sentence).:)

Laws are enforced by the people and they are very much complaint-based.

Talk to your MLA and then call up an ambulance chaser. That's what happened here in 2007 and they won.

seriously Bruce, after 5 years fighting i don't have much fight left. time for somone else to step up to the plate.
14,000 RHD (approx) in canada and about 10 that are doing the fighting for the whole RHD country.
