i'm interrested in the m14. i like it don't need it but i like it so i need it.

LOL. That sounds like some of my twisted logic. I need an M-14 real bad, to protect our house from zombie attacks. And Shoal Creek's man eating raccoons.

This 40 is worth giving up some of my zombie killing tools, but I'd rather keep them. So, someone please buy my welder!

I am going to stop once I reach the magic number of $650.

By the way, that welder is excellent, i am willing to give it up because I am TIG welding everything now.

If I get a bonus today or friday I will buy the welder I will send ya a pm Friday.

Natvet: Thanks, just let me know!

You're going to want that welder once you get the 40, trust me ...

You are absolutely correct. I still have a Bobcat 250 and scratch-start TIG to fall back on. I don't really use the MIG any more after learning to TIG.

Get the welder. You can always buy a cheap compressor on craigslist.

Buy the welder. You can never have too many welders or guns.

FYI its on craiglist again .... too bad I need a new tcase for the BJ I'd be there tomarrow for that Mini 14 and even the ammo :frown:

but send me more pics and contact info my Dad may still get it

The tub is terrible inside!!

OK. So I drove 2hrs to go take a look at the 40 and found a big, nasty surprise. The inside floors of this 40 are gone. I can deal with repair work, but this needs a new bed, rear sill, rear wheel wells, mid bed and floor boards. The tailgate is pretty bad too. The guy selling this is a pretty good photographer since his pic managed to omit all of the rot.

The truck does have a nice frame and is good from the dash/firewall forward. The side sheet metal is in pretty good shape with small repairable defects. The jump seats and roll bar are in good shape. The doors have no rot at all which I found surprising and the windshield frame is very solid with zero rot. The wheels are solid, but rusty and will clean up well. The spare tire holder is very solid with zero rust. The rear hatch is inside of the truck and isn't too far gone.

I reckon that the truck was left outside for the past 10 years with the rear open to the elements, hence the rusty floors.

What do ya'll think??

Does anyone out there have a tub laying around that I can use to bring this 40 back to life?

Caladin:
The Consew does not need frequent adjusting. The only thing that I have had to adjust is the bobbin timing and I have a copy of the manual explaining the process. The machine works very well and is easy to maintain.

Some more pics

Here are some more pics of the condition. Bear in mind that my budget is very limited and that I am looking for an affordable starting point.

And the data plates

The plate on the inside of the fender was covered with stubborn red dust (looks like Georgia clay).

On the consew...

Smoking or pets? It's gotta come into the house, and we're all
wuusiie allergy phobes.

I'll go first. A solid frame and title with matching VIN are probably worth $500. Maybe a bit more. Whether to buy depends on your level of patience and how much spare time you're willing to devote to a restoration. There was a used tub in the Austin area that recently sold for something like $500. If you could stumble across something similarly priced, you'd be in business. I don't suppose you know if it runs? You may be surprised. There's an abundance of stories of abandoned 40's firing up with nothing more than fresh gas and a new battery.

Here's the tub thread. You might check to see if it ever sold. Last price mentioned is $450.

Thanks for the lead. I just PM'd him.

Everything under the hood looked OK. I bet that this truck would run with very little work (fresh gas, plugs, oil, and battery). It even has a spare carb in the bed.
