The FJ60 bellhousing will work, but you will need to fabricate a cross member. The early FJ40 4-speed bellhousings have dog-ear engine mounts that attach to the frame. The FJ60's do not.

You should be a little carefull here. The early FJ60 bellhouses were inline with the FJ40 4 spd ones, at least in late production. The mid-production FJ60 used a "3F" bellhouse thaet canted the tranny 7 degrees toward the NA diver's side IIRC. This allowed for the use of a "normal" front drive set-up without double cardigan and for room for the spacer where the H42's 5th gear should have been.

After years of these things seeming to be unobtanium why are so many now on the market here with seemingly legal US titles? Has something changed or are the importers sharper about the loopholes to get a title?

25 years old is easy to get in. So, an '85 model year is just now beginning to be real easy.

No loopholes at all at 25 years.

Seems many of these have come into northern states at less than 25 years old, I wish I knew how to do it. I think in the past there were some states that didn't seem to have much trouble letting you bring in a canadian vehicle, but the fed regs are tougher. Boltrek brought his '84 troopy in in '96 by registering it in Canada for a while, then was able to title in Colorado. Not sure you can get away with it now, as the import regs are even very specific for importing Canadian vehicles. For example, used to be able to bring in any GM (new) truck with minor changes--speedo in mph, etc, now there is a list of ones (mostly diesel, I think), specifically excluded from import eligibility.

well i dunno why, but those silly looking Mitsubishi Delicas, 4x4, turbo diesel, (saw one for the first time in CAN a few years ago). have been a morbid fascination for drive up and camp option... never seen one in US, usually RHD, etc. figured they would be way too difficult to ever try. Sounds like you've been through the ringer before Diesel Dan (was the faux-lux donor foreign? guess you never had to register it eh)? and figured out how to pull crazy chit like that off? sorry, that might well be enthusiastic hijack (couldn't resist), ignore if inappropriate.

2many has more experience actually importing whole vehicles than I do. I haven't actually pulled the trigger and brought in a complete vehicle (yet).

The faux-lux is really a US-spec truck. But I imported an LN-130 half cut (the front half of a JDM Hilux Surf) and swapped the important bits into my US spec truck. That's how I have a '91 with a '91 turbo diesel engine here legally. There's other ways to get newer stuff in, but it's at least a little risky, or done using grey channels.

Which is why I think you're seeing all these '85s show up. Until now, the owners were worried that a change in the title might lead to it being not allowed. Now that they are 25 years old, there's more of a market to sell them since they can be easily titled/registered.

Next time I'm home (ha! funny joke I know) I'll see if you can't come up (I'm just a few miles north of Ali) and I can talk to you more about the JDM/diesels. I also have a 2002 1HZ motor waiting for my 45 (which is also non-US spec, but a '76).

Someone better snap this little air comp up for trail inflation duties!

*NEW* MV50 High Volume Super Flow Mini Air Compressor

I think this is the one or comparable to the one I bought from Beo a couple years ago. It did well for my 31"s on the 60, getting it up to the ~30 psi I ran them at. It has trouble with my 33"s and getting them up to the 38 psi they run at. It does the job, it just takes a while.
