Ok. went down a checked out this LC today.

NO NOT BUY THIS TRUCK!!!!!!!

The body was redone some years ago and it was a very good job. There is a small amount of rust beginning again on the drivers side rear door lower edge.

There is a rust through hole, small, on the stock rear bumper. This was my warning sign.

I asked them to put it up on a hoist for me to look under the unit. They were reluctant but did so. The frame is shot. In nearly every area of the frame I could flake off rust slabs that were upwards of 1/16" thick and the size of soup crackers and bigger! The body was redone, but nothing has ever been done with the frame. In front of the rear sway bar mount on the frame an entire section of the inner box is missing.

Further, they are shooting it with fresh black undercoating all inside the wheel wells AND the frame an under body to cover all this up. Hell, they haven't even power washed it and are blowing the undercoat over dirt, rust and straw!!!!

Whoever buys the nice looking LC is going to be in for a very unpleasant surprise not too long down the road.

Please let anyone who mentions this unit to you know it isn't worth the time or trouble!

Well of course, otherwise they'd have to wait for it to dry! I hear they want $12K for the truck.

I did say I hadn't looked closely at it! :D

My truck was serviced by this dealer for something like 13 years with the PO.
I took it in to have the valves adjusted and asked them to retorque the head while they were at it. the valve adjust cost something like 90 bucks and the service guy wanted to charge me another 100 for the retorque. I had to wrangle with the bastards for about an hour until the manager came back from lunch. The mechanic was really good (actually showed me how to adjust the valves so now I can do it myself)

Mat60:

The mechanic I used to deal with there for my BJ43 was good, but he is gone now. Apparently they don't have anyone who is really up on the older LC's anymore.

I've always done most of my own work so the number of times I was in the service department was very limited, only during the warranty on any new or used vehicle I had purchased there.

In fact, over the years I found them parts around the world for repair of the BJ40 - 43's when the parts where no long listed in the Canadian parts listings. Most were still readily available off the shelf in Europe or Aus.

Previa Diesel:

Yes they are asking $12K or it.

Considering there are LC's just as good, with likely better frames, in Vancouver for the $5500 - $8500 range they are sucking wind over here. As I said, it does LOOK good from the body and interior. But in this instance it's the rot underneath that is the big issue.

Also, I didn't mention before, but it has a rear main leak, front pinion leak, oil running down the side of the motor, valve cover leak and a strange aftermarket oil heater plate under the pan held on with pipe strapping! :censor:

Oh well, as they say, buyer beware!!!

Seriously though guys, if you hear of somebody looking at this thing, please let them know what it's really like. By the time they spray this thing with new undercoating the untrained eye isn't going to be able to see all the rot they have hidden.

As far as I'm concerned that borders on misrepresentation by this dealer. They know the problem is there, but they are hiding it and I'm sure won't be telling potential buyers!

Well if you look around in here Josh is a buddy of mine and has one of the nicest 40s I've ever seen for a driver..

It's got a perfect Vortec done right by one of the best in the business (Tim Hill), front and rear disk brakes, power steering, the cooling, mounts, OME lift and everything else has all be done 100%... Even has basicly new 33s on it.. He offered to swap me for one of my 80s and I was temped but I like my 40 or I would have done it. This thing has the 4 speed and drives nicer then any 40 I've ever put my butt in...

New deal

PROBLEM AREAS---------------------------------------------------------------------
***I will list EVERY issue I can possibly think of, no matter how small, so that you can make an informed buying decision. If you have ANY questions about any of this, or would like pictures of any damage, please contact me...NO SURPRISES, I promise!***

-Rear wheel center cap missing on one wheel
-Small tear at base of driver and passenger seats
-Quarter-sized tear in headliner towards rear of vehicle
-Score on rear window from wiper arm when blade fell off :(
-Very minimal rock pitting above front grill on hood, hardly noticeable
-Dime-sized rust spot (controlled) above windshield
-Few match head sized rust spots on roof
-Factory antenna broke at base (stupid car wash!)
-Small rock divot in windshield (was resin-repaired to prevent spreading)
-Tachometer is finicky...sometimes it functions and sometimes not
-Hose connecting rear wash reservoir to spray nozzle has break, so water leaks out of headliner if you use it (easy repair, just never got around to it)
-Factory speaker grill on top of passenger-side dashboard has very minimal sun cracking (not noticeable, but tender if you poke at it...it's really the only flaw on the entire dash).
-Passenger-side, rear quarter panel (between wheel well and rear bumper) is the only small rust problem. It is low and has been painted over, so it isn't very visible, but I would recommend sanding out and painting that entire fender section. The gas tank has also overflowed a few times, causing further paint damage upon close inspection.
-Overall, the paint looks amazing. There are a few dings here and there, but you really have to look close.
-On cold mornings recently, I have been getting some whinning from the steering column on first start. It is possible that the power steering pump might need to be rebuilt with some fresh gaskets.
