I've got a seized F engine that I have decided to rebuild. I have sucessfully removed the engine from the truck, but I need to remove the flywheel and clutch so that I can put the engine on an engine stand. Some of the bolts that hold the clutch plate to the fly wheel appear to inaccessable. Has anybody dealt with this before, and if so what was the solution.

I did rotate the flywheel to get mine off, but it sounds like you can't do that. The only thing I can think of is to loosen the main caps and rod caps until you can rotate it. That's assuming it is a frozen bearing. If it is a piston(s), I dunno.

I'm sure someone here has an answer...

Pull the pan and figure out what exactly is siezed. You can unbolt the crank completely and take it out as one piece..

Mace, the newb is from LV. You oughta just go over and help him!;)

You are right..

Hey Newbie.. Give me a ring..

Had to do a couple different things...

If it is the crank bearings that seized, loosed all the caps until you can turn it...

If it is a piston(s) that seized, undo all the con-rods, and hope you can turn it...

Last resort, take a BIG hammer to the bellhousing (if not needed), the cast will shatter fairly easy, allowing you access to the flywheel & clutch

:D

Ummm.....yeah, that'd be a last resort :) ....but it's right, and used bellhousings are available pretty reasonably....why, I'd bet that a place like Cruiser Outfitters would have the right one in stock.... a low cost and quick shipment from not too far away!
I'll bet some more that if you refer to this thread when ordering they'll clean it all up like new and repaint it for you too.....at no additional cost :D

I have a bunch of spare 4 speed Bh's laying around. free for the taking.
