How did the ebay one work out. To find a new, unsused F, 3 finger, stepped flywheel is unicorn.
Just got it back from the machine shop. Looks fine though. I still may used my original depending on which one has more thickness. I had the old one resurfaced as well.

I did notice the new Ebay one had 6 1/2" holes bored through the edge. The machinist though maybe for water drainage?

Spin balancing; material removal, the opposite of wheel weights.

I don't think these holes are for balancing. Balancing holes don't normally go all the way through. Usually, you will see 2 or 3 at various depths. Also, these 6 holes ate all evenly spaced and all 6 go all the way through.

Maybe weight reduction?

not much weight to lose, at the risk of changing the balance? Just thinking out loud.

I think the balancing of the flywheel would be done after the holes were bored

When i was a kid there was a guy that radically lightened the fly wheel in his Hog, it changed the power band to way higher up and it came on really quickly such as from docile to monster like flicking a switch.

Ya. Lighter flywheel will give you much faster RPM response, and losing inertia. ( and a rougher idle?. )
